I think the expectations were warranted. There was a returning senior QB who had seen game play and by accounts last year had shown improvement (perhaps not), an experienced OL and depth a RB. I honestly believe the team is suffering from two things right now - having to deal with a new face a head coach for the third time in five years and the struggle to find an identity.
Here's how the rest of the schedule shakes out for me:
Memphis - L
EMU - W
Ohio - L
Toledo - L
Miami - W
NIU - W
Akron - L
Kent - W
Buffalo - W

What???????????? Not a freaking chance! NIU is not that bad. Sure, NIU is 0-3, but USF and SDSU (#22) are darned good teams. And Wyoming is much improved and was a tough road game.

NIU is not the program it should be this year. Hare is out again and they have very few playmakers on offense. Hell, they're only a touchdown favorite this week at home against Western Illinois. It's a winnable game for BG and the word out of Huskie land is that the players are somewhat fed up with Rod Carey.Redwingtom wrote:jpfalcon09 wrote:I think the expectations were warranted. Sure...but you have watched us the first three weeks, yes? LOLjpfalcon09 wrote:NIU is not the program it should be this year. Hare is out again and they have very few playmakers on offense. We just never (or rarely) win in DeKalb.

I don't believe BG will be nearly as inept offensively come November as they are now...or at least I hope that's the case. You're right about demons in DeKalb however...still I think it's a winnable game this year.Redwingtom wrote:Sure...but you have watched us the first three weeks, yes? I agree with JP, the cupboard was not bare. I didn't expect to be good but I didn't expect to be bad either.
Re: Expectations too high...
I wouldn't care if this team went 1-11, as long as that win was against Toledo. The way they have started, that could be the toughest game on the MAC Schedule. Would be awesome to pull the major upset at the Glass Bowl.
When I first looked at the schedule, I felt it was very realistic that we'd go 6-6, winning all of our home games and losing our road games. The one home game I felt like we might lose was Middle Tennessee (and we did). I agree with those that say our wins will likely be those grind-it-out, last second scoring type wins.

Wasn't Drew Hare lost for the year at NIU?
We've played NIU 8 times in DeKalb lifetime and are 3-5 there....although we have lost the last 3 times we've played there. We just don't play them often.

Northern Illinois showed some signs of life against San Diego State, but South Florida crushed them and their loss at Wyoming in triple overtime is not impressive (even if it did end at 2:30 a.m. Mountain Time because of weather delays).
Re: Expectations too high...
Emu looked pretty good against Wyoming tonight. They have 2 QBs that can throw the ball and both have the knack for touch passes much like MJ. Both run the ball effectively too.
