We have to win the next game

Post by MarkL »

Next up is Eastern Michigan. We have to win this one. If we lose, or worse if we lose by multiple possessions, it will completely destroy the psyche of this team. A homecoming win and a 1-0 conference start would go a long way toward salvaging this season and looking back on September as nothing but growing pains.

I'm not sure if I've ever labeled a game vs Eastern Michigan as must win, but here we are ...

Agreed. I am still in shock of seeing this team give up 207 pts in 4 games...while not scoring at all.

We lose this one and the worst case scenario becomes very real. It is the most bizarre thing I've ever seem in my 30+ years of following Falcon Football. How the hell do we go from MAC Champs to one of the worst teams in the nation?

We need this one badly and EMU is coming in all jacked up with a 3-1 start.

I agree. And make no mistake about it, this IS, without a doubt, a MUST-WIN game for BG. Period. End of discussion. If the very close loss to CMU in 1994 for a then-very good BG team (BG entered the game with a 9-1 record) "broke the back of our program" (Blackney later admitted it did), think of what a loss to an EMU team that BG has defeated 11 of the last 12 times would do to a team that has just lost the two worst games in SCHOOL HISTORY in the last month. Dear Lord did I just type that??? It could be devastating. These teams are coming into this game from completely different ends of the spectrum too. EMU is playing its best football in over 20 years where they're actually drawing fans in the standings and winning, and BG has been a complete disaster looking like a high school vs its competition. Now that analogy gets used often in blowouts, but honest to God, BG looked so outclassed and outmanned vs OSU and Memphis that we really did look like a bad high school team out there.

If we beat EMU, they'll have no choice but to give into the calls to drop out of the FBS. It'll be the final nail in the coffin.

We will beat EMU, and I think we will win our 4 remaining home games. We've still got a good chance to win the MAC East.

HOWEVER, I will not be watching the game on Oct. 15. That could be ugly.

I can't imagine us losing to EMU...even as bad as we have looked and the improvement they have shown. If we lose, I think Moosebrugger will be looking for ways to come up with a buyout.

there is no possible way we will win the game vs. EMU. We should strive to hold their jocks!

I watched EMU on Friday night and their QB play is about as bad as ours. Their defense however played well and they have some decent sized running backs that may give our D fits...hell I think a Pop Warner team right now would give our D fits. I expect an ugly game filled with mistakes and whoever can run the ball the best comes out on top.

EMU by a TD. It won't be the first time we've dropped a homecoming game to emu.

Hopefully we get near 10,000 fans for the game. Couple more losses and we'll be right in the 1,000-2,000 range the last couple home games.

Heard BG is favored by 10 on the radio so I went out to a few sites to actually see if this was true. BG 6 1/2.

Are we expecting to score 62..........? Because we give up an average of 55.

We have played four teams that will all contend in their respective conferences. I fully expect Memphis will push Houston for the AAC and MTSU has got to be the C-USA favorite. Eastern has beaten two of the very worst FBS teams, not that we have room to talk, and beat perhaps the worst FCS team. So I would say picking a favorite in this one is a bit difficult.

The spread is now down to -3, basically even with 3 points to us for being the home team. Frankly, I'm too scared to watch!!

I was wrong. We will not beat EMU. This doesn't change my plans for Oct. 15 in any way.
