Knapke would not have helped us win that game. We looked so much better with Morgan out there. Knapke would have been sacked about 6 times. Morgan was only sacked twice, and he scrambled when he needed to. He also has a much better arm.Redwingtom wrote:Not sure how you can or why you would put that publicly in stone, but okay.jpfalcon09 wrote:Jinks said today that Morgan will start the rest of the season.
That being said, I think we win the EMU game if Knapke started and played the whole game. But this team is going nowhere, so I agree that Morgan should be given a chance to learn on the job the rest of the season.

Re: Morgan Named Starter vs. EMU
Morgan overall looked fine but missed some open receivers. Simple fixable mistakes. There was one in the third where he rolled to the right and missed to the right a wide open guy who would have scored. Matt Johnson would have made that throw. 2014 Knapke would have made that throw. Morgan will make that throw later this season and that is exactly the point of playing him now.

2014 early season Knapke, maybe, but second half of 2014...no. 2016 Knapke, absolutely not.MarkL wrote:Morgan overall looked fine but missed some open receivers. Simple fixable mistakes. Knapke missed some throws in early 2014. He should have hung 70 on Indiana, but he was off on a lot of throws that stalled drives.
This is the season we find out if Morgan is the guy...if not, next in line is Cunningham

Re: Morgan Named Starter vs. EMU
Knapke and Morgan are essentially equal this year in terms of performance. A simple glance at the stats alone will show you that neither one has been more effective or better than the other one. The stats don't lie, they're both playing poorly. The eye test doesn't differ much either. The bottom line is neither one of these guys is a very good QB "right now." However, the key words are "right now." The season has already gone down the tubes, so in hopes of somehow digging ourselves out of this pit, I'd rather see Morgan continue to get the reps now to hopefully....HOPEFULLY....pay off in the near future, rather than hand them off to a guy in his last year of eligibility. The bottom line is BG is essentially screwed at the position this season, but we're doing the right thing for the future of the program based on the debacle of a season we're in.

Re: Morgan Named Starter vs. EMU
Eye test is far different. Morgan has better feet, is therefore more mobile and he has far more zip in this throws in that 10-15 yd range. Accuracy on the deep ball needs a little work..but the arm strength is there. he doesn't stare down hos receiver like Knapke, but he does misread coverages and throw some dumb int's..something that experience should fix.
Knapke is at his ceiling..Morgan is nowhere near his. On a 1-5 team, that alone should tell you who to start

Re: Morgan Named Starter vs. EMU
Completely agree. Morgan clearly has a better arm and has shown pretty good accuracy most of the time. His biggest problem now is decision making and reading coverage, especially when under pressure. I think that's a product of inexperience and there's no reason not to expect him to improve in that area as he gets more playing time.Flipper wrote:Eye test is far different. We pretty much know what we'll get with Knapke. There will be growing pains with Morgan, but he has the potential to develop into an outstanding QB, so giving him the playing time now is a no-brainer. I think someone may have already mentioned it in an earlier thread, but Josh Harris was painful to watch at QB when he first played as a freshman. Even so, you could see flashes of his ability and as he got more time on the field, he steadily improved and we know how he turned out. Morgan has a different type of game than Harris had, but I think it's entirely possible that Morgan could end up with Harris in the category of all time BG QB's by the time he's done. Whether he gets there or not will depend largely on what talent can be developed around him and of course, if he can stay healthy.
