Lack of interest in Falcon football
Lack of interest in Falcon football
After last week's near upset I thought we may have a little more interest of this week's game. During the entire 1st half against Miami I was the only one posting anything. I highly doubt everyone on this board is attending this week's game. I spoke with my Dad right before kickoff and he said he counted a total of 84 cars in the entire grass lots on the east side. Very small crowd and very little activity on this site. That's all you need to know to tell you how bad our program is this year. Very little interest. Even the coverage in The Blade and Sentinel Tribune is down.

Made the trip last Saturday. Noon home games suck.
Watching at home today as the kids have events this weekend.
Yeah, I agree. Interest is down. Lose today and we will have 10 people there for weekday games the rest of the season.

Lack of interest in BG Athletics in general....started with Greg Christopher and Carol Cartwright not understanding how to run a D1 athletic department. Many of the decisions they made 6-8 years ago are still haunting many of the programs. Cutting scholarships from certain sports, having a fundraising campaign for hockey that raised next to nothing, making some horrendous hires. The department is a laughingstock of the MAC. It used to be Buffalo, NIU, Akron...now it's BG.
Re: Lack of interest in Falcon football
I can't remember a year where BG stunk in so many sports?
Re: Lack of interest in Falcon football
We don't do well in attendance or interest when we have a ten win season.
1-6 with a squeaker over Windsor Community College. Forget it.

People will be interested when this team becomes interesting. Right now it's nowhere near that.
GO BG!!!

Re: Lack of interest in Falcon football
I think there's a lack of interest with sports across the board. Whether it's at BG, NFL, NASCAR, etc, I feel like attendance numbers have dropped. However, I think it's way more pronounced at BG than other schools around the MAC. For whatever reason, there's not a culture revolving around going to the game - no matter how good the team is.

I agree. Too many options of things to do, and smaller level schools are getting squeezed out of what people care about. It doesn't help when the gameday atmosphere becomes a running joke among all the people you know. Here is an idea. Play Saturday night games. In all sports. Make it a social event.

People don't care because the league has actively set out to turn us into ESPN's bitch since...2008? Scheduling is done with absolutely zero thought given to boosting attendance. Noon kickoffs so ESPN3 has something to stream...midweek games for one of the ESPN cable nets...or more likely ESPN3. Nobody wants to go to a noon game...It's a Saturday...we have lights...kick off at 4pm . Give the students a chance to wake up ...the alums a chance to drive in and tailgate a little or enjoy a local restaurant before the game. Midweek? Yeah...some dipshit in Paducah can see us play...BFD. We have busy lives working so the man can confiscate our wages to pay for the Globalist agenda. We don't have time for football on a Wednesday
I really don't know who I despise more...ESPN for ruining college football or the MAC for thinking whoring our conference out to them was a smart move.

I was going to ask, since I have been working 16 hour shifts every Saturday this month, how did Morgan look last game?
Re: Lack of interest in Falcon football
I caught about half of the game. I'd say he was up and down. It was the first time since he first started he looked like a freshman. At one point we were in front of our own end zone and he made a freshman mistake - he threw a screen pass that was actually a lateral. It was dropped and he did not run toward it like it was a fumble, neither did much of the team until a Miami defender ran toward it. Coppet I think recovered it in the end zone for a safety.MikePloKoon wrote:I was going to ask, since I have been working 16 hour shifts every Saturday this month, how did Morgan look last game?
On the good side, we had a TD on a brilliant call - a pass to a wide open FB running loose as all the receivers ran the other way.

Exactly. Short term income from E$PN, long-term screwing over of the fanbase. If they act like the fans that go to the game don't matter, fans pick up on that.Flipper wrote:People don't care because the league has actively set out to turn us into ESPN's bitch since...2008? Many years NIU only had 5 home games, with one of those against an FCS school, many times a school like Cal Poly or Presbyterian. Ridiculous. This year we have 6 home games, so what happens? We switch one game to Chicago so we still only have 5 games at Huskie stadium, and only 4 games on a Saturday.

Embarrassing when I hear of talk of "strong tradition"guest44 wrote:I agree. Too many options of things to do, and smaller level schools are getting squeezed out of what people care about. It doesn't help when the gameday atmosphere becomes a running joke among all the people you know.
