2016: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Post by jpfalcon09 »

Even though the season isn't officially done until Friday, we all know what the outcome is going to be. I figured it would be interesting to do an autopsy on the season that was, examining the positives and negatives and looking forward to what the program needs for 2017. Feel free to add in your own thoughts.

The good:
James Morgan was given the keys to the car early enough in the season to gain valuable experience with three years of eligibility remaining. While he had an up-and-down year, his bright spot was by far the Toledo game.

Speaking of the Toledo game, it was an inspired effort by a group of young kids who were in all reality overmatched from the get go.

Scott Miller emerged as a playmaker at WR, a position that ended up being very thin after departures.

The bad:
The coaching staff refused to commit to running the ball early in the season with a young QB and inexperienced WRs.

Ronnie Moore was largely a non-factor after expectations were that he would be the focal point of the offense. Biggest disappointment by far.

BG lost conference games to EMU and Miami, but in all fairness those teams ended up being bowl eligible.

The ugly:

Giving up 77 points twice in the first four games of the season. Inexcusable and embarrassing for everyone involved.

BG ended up 126th in the country in turnover margin (-1.45). Again, no excuse.

Pending the outcome of the Buffalo game, BG will finish no better than .500 at home.
The longer the walk, the farther you crawl.

The turnovers are the worst thing for me...we still have a game to play and have turned it over 31X this year. Last year in 14 games, we had 13.

But, there is hope. I like the fact we can end on a 3 game winning streak and tie for 3rd in the East.
