Gehrig Dieter
Re: Gehrig Dieter
Does John Wagner read this board? Since he found Dieter for questions, can I request an interview? Can you call Kingston up, and ask him how many times he saw Jans under the influence in public, prior to the night which got him fired? Also, how many of those times was it on BGSU grounds? My first encounter was in September, at a BGSU football game. I had a BGSU staffer discuss his drinking at BGSU events, as if it was a joking matter, 2 months after he was hired. So clearly, Chris Kingston knew nothing of the sort, or chose to do nothing about it. Leadership.
Re: Gehrig Dieter
Flipper, I understand your reasoning and I know schools block transfers for undergrads, which is why NCAA states that transfers must sit out a year. Dieter had already graduated. He had his degree. He simply could have stopped playing football. Instead he enrolled in a graduate program that BG didn't offer. He is a grad student at Alabama. He wanted to go to Syracuse. What right did BG have to block him.
Re: Gehrig Dieter
gmartin, while I am no lawyer and have no legal training, should any university allow one player go to a school that now has any previous, especially an immediate coach, this might have an impact on other players wanting to leave or being recruited to leave. Then where would the program be,,? All of our talented players leaving,?
Re: Gehrig Dieter
Had some technical issues as I was typing nothing was appearing. Anyway, to finish my thought, I don't know if any legal issues could arise based on a precedent being set. Remember babers comment when he left? He basically said I can't contact you but you can contact me. Unlike Clawson who said basically an out right NO! Should our star players have had more eligibility what would have kept them from going then, now or in the future.
Re: Gehrig Dieter
Actually the NCAA is looking into this and may change its policies within the next few years. If a player is recruited by a coach he/she may be able to transfer without sitting out a year. They haven't implemented that rule yet but are thinking about it.
My point was simple. Dieter already graduated. He enrolled in a graduate program at a different school because BG didn't offer that program. BG prevented Dieter from going to Syracuse only because Babers left BG with the cupboard dry. WHO CARES!!! BG wasn't playing Syracuse this year. Why didn't BG block him from going to Alabama. What if he wanted to go to Ohio State, whom we did play this year. Dieter gave us TWO great years. He got his degree from BGSU and the school blocks him from going to another school all because he wanted to follow a coach after he graduated. That's pretty crappy.

Re: Gehrig Dieter
Just asking a question without any knowledge of the situation, but perhaps Dieter planned to go to Syracuse for a graduate degree that BG actually did offer? In that case, BG could block the transfer I believe. As was stated above, Dieter chose a graduate program at Alabama that wasn't offered at BG, so as a graduating student he could transfer without a problem. Again, I have no knowledge of that situation, but perhaps this could be part of it?gmartin wrote:Actually the NCAA is looking into this and may change its policies within the next few years. Re: Gehrig Dieter
I have read articles about Gerhig not staying at BGSU because we didn't have his graduate major. Can he transfer yes if he was a regular student or had used up all his eligibility. College athletes, no matter at what level- d1 to d3, have 5 yrs to compete 4 yrs and Gerhig still had one yr remaining so it had to be approved by BG.
As for leaving the cupboards bare. This isn't the issue as we know he knew what was coming. Immaterial, it's about making sure when we have coaches leave they don't poach from a system they are leaving or have left. So why open that barn door. We don't play Syracuse or Alabama, not the issue, issue is making sure when the coaching revolving door hits again that they aren't going to benefit from players they had a relationship with previously. Not fair to the current college, any college, as this could lead to a disastrous event to any program being left high and dry. There has been much discussion over costs, if coaches were allowed to poach the best players from a school they previously coached at could become quite costly. As its been discussed, slot of money is being spent in order to put a quality team together but if a school had to start over every time a coach left with the best players leaving why have the program? I know the response now, we are only talking one player. However, if you let one does that then set a legal precedent that you can't say no to others?

Don't know if there's any rhyme or reason to it...not sure I really care at this point

Re: Gehrig Dieter
Didn't win the national title........ should have stayed at BG......
What a great 4th quarter of a championship game.

Re: Gehrig Dieter
John Wagner, also ask Chris about this event..... http://www.bgsufalcons.com/news/2014/6/ ... 41912.aspx" target="_blank
I did not make the event, but its' events sure were discussed. Maybe BG staffers just discuss this stuff with people on the outside, and do not discuss internally. My question was something like "Have you met the new basketball coach?" I heard way more than I ever needed to hear. Gosh, I hope people were just really that oblivious to it.
Instead the local media just gave him smooches as he left on his terms.

Re: Gehrig Dieter
Dieter said today on a radio program that he wanted to go to Syracuse but Kingston blocked him from transferring there. I wonder if he was the individual reported to be tampered with by a member of the Syracuse staff.

Re: Gehrig Dieter
I'd like to see Detroit sign Dieter as a UDFA...I think he's got a future as a redzone/possession threat.
