Kent State football player Tyler Heintz died Tuesday morning after participating in a workout, the school announced.
Heintz, an incoming freshman offensive lineman who had arrived on campus earlier this week, was transported to a local hospital following conditioning drills at Dix Stadium, according to a news release from the school Tuesday night. The cause of death has not yet been determined.
He planned on studying marketing and entrepreneurship in Kent State's college of business administration, the release said.CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Portage County Coroner's office confirmed late Tuesday Kent State incoming freshman football player Tyler Heintz, a 2017 graduate of Kenton High School, died late Tuesday morning.
At 9:20 p.m. Kent State's communications and marketing department did release a brief statement.
"Today, the Kent State University family mourns the tragic loss of one of our student-athletes, freshman football player Tyler Heintz. Tyler was transported to a local hospital by paramedics this morning following football conditioning drills at Dix Stadium. The cause of death is not yet known.
"Tyler was from Kenton, Ohio, and planned to study marketing and entrepreneurship in the College of Business Administration. Tyler was recruited as a rising star on our offensive line. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with Tyler's family and friends, as well as Coach Haynes and the team, our athletics staff and our student-athletes."
The coroners office said it was too soon to determine a cause of death.
For Heintz, it was his second day on campus during preseason football workouts at the university in high 80-degree weather and high humidity.
Heintz recently graduated from Kenton High School. He is the second football player at Kent State to die over the last four years.
Or prayers are with him, his family and friends, and Kent State

Just so sad to hear...KSU went through this a couple years ago with another OL. Prayers are with the family and entire KSU community.

It must weigh heavy on Paul Haynes. Not that this is his fault - I just can only imagine the pain of talking to two sets of parents who entrusted sons to his care.

What a horrible turn of events...his parents must be absolutely devastated.
Given the heat and humidity and intensity of the workout..wonder if it was rhabdo...Iowa almost lost about 15 players from going at it too hard too quickly in winter drills awhile back

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
