Re: 10 New Players
I'm always curious; why aren't any of these situations every elaborated on? Koontz was a big get and then it just comes out that he's going to Arizona for JC, but there aren't any posts about it anywhere. Guevremont (who was a mammoth, if I recall) was pumped that he was coming to BG and his social media all still say BG but now he's going a D2 HBCU in North Carolina.
I'm not saying it's not better for them or for BG in the long run, I just always find it strange how this seems to happen a couple times a year after they've already signed.

I agree. I don't think it's out of the ordinary to lose 2 players from a 25 man signing class. I think most teams see that type of attrition. But it would be nice to know the reasoning behind it when the players do leave. I guess 17 and 18 year olds often don't commit long term.

Oh the age of social media where everyone thinks they should be told everything. It's really none of our business as fans and alumni why a player decides to change where they commit or transfer unless the player or coach want to openly make a statement about it.
Re: 10 New Players
Just a guess here, but the Koontz situation might have something to do with grades. Typically when a kid comes out of high school and lands at a Juco, it usually revolves around academics or a lack of offers. And Koontz not only had offers, but he signed with BG. So he may have had an academic issue. Or he may just have had a change of heart and asked for his release. Who knows. Either way it sucks because he was our top high school recruit in this year's class. I was told Guyton was the top guy overall in the class but that Koontz was the top high school signee. As for Guevremont, I was told he may not have even played this year despite being a Juco transfer signee. Normally when you sign a Juco, you sign the kid with hopes/expectations he'll either start, or at least solidify a spot in the two-deep. In his case, I was told the coaches were looking to redshirt him. Just a hunch here, but I got the vibe he was a fringe kid who likely wasn't going to pan out at BG. If so, it would easily explain why he's where he is now. The more puzzling one to me is Juco Tanner who had a lot of offers and it sounds like the plan may to be to try and redshirt him as well.drumstix2388 wrote:I'm always curious; why aren't any of these situations every elaborated on? I love the transfer additions of Walder, Kurtz and Naranjo. I'm also glad to hear Lamar is back. I remember hearing Witcher was coming to BG right after signing day so I'm glad he made it.
GO BG!!!
Re: 10 New Players
If it's a grades issue with Koontz, I hope a) he gets his head on straight and priorities aligned in order to establish a good foundation for is own future, and quite selfishly b) considers BG again when he's ready for FBS.

Gehrig Dieter was a rather impactful player.Flipper wrote:Transfers from D1 schools that have had an impact here include..........anyone? Eilar Hardy!! Anyone else?

Two good examples...hopefully Guyton will be another.

Re: 10 New Players
As mentioned, Gehrig Dieter (SMU) has to be the best transfer I can ever remember coming to BG. Donovan Wilson (Georgia Tech) has been solid and Eilar Hardy (Notre Dame) was too. William Houston (Ohio State) certainly had an impact in goal line situations a few years ago as he scored 11 TD's in 2013. Andre Givens (Pitt) was decent a few years ago as well. Rick Mauer (Air Force) was a solid guy for BG too. I can think of several guys who came in with some hype but fell short, or in some cases, fell way short. In the falling short group I would throw out the names Eric Starks (Ohio State), Letosky Carey (Rutgers), Damian Platt (Illinois) and Martez Johnson (Kentucky) to name a few. The ones who fell way short would be highlighted by Robbie Rhodes (Baylor). He was a major bust for several reasons. Malik Brown (Tennessee) has been a bust too. Clayton Nicholas (Texas Tech) never even played before he transferred, Tim Tupa (Navy) never materialized, and we still haven't seen what Dorian Hendrix (Kentucky) can do. I know there are others I'm missing but those are some that come to mindFlipper wrote:Transfers from D1 schools that have had an impact here include..........anyone? Eilar Hardy!! Anyone else?
But I’ll tell you who I think just might have been the best transfer (besides Dieter) that comes to mind and he wasn’t even from a D-I school. It was Keyland Cates (RB) from D-III Ohio Wesleyan. This kid basically recruited himself to BG and turned out to be a very solid player. I really liked him and he was arguable our best running back when he played for us..

Houston tried to rape a girl..please don't cite him as a success

Re: 10 New Players
Who said anything about him being labeled a "success???" That's your word, not mine. Your question was:Flipper wrote:Houston tried to rape a girl..please don't cite him as a success
"Transfers from D1 schools that have had an impact here include..........anyone? Eilar Hardy!! Anyone else?"
I was simply answering it. IMO, he certainly had an "impact" - ON THE FIELD - the one season he played. But that's where it ends with him. I am in no way labeling him a "success," saying he should still be around or anything of the sort. I was sickened and infuriated about the situation that unfolded with him. Period.

You know...I read that bit about Houston as seeming almost....appreciative...of what he did. Reading it a second time...yeah, you were more neutral towards him than I perceived. My mistake....
I really don't like people who abuse women and kids...so I tend to be pretty reactive about them
