Quick takeaways from Jinks' press conference

Post by MarkL »

I just listened to the press conference from today. Quick takeaways ...
- Jinks was visibly frustrated talking about Michigan State. That game was winnable. The opportunities were there to be up big early
- speaking of opportunities, he specifically mentioned bad passes as missed opportunities and said you have to make those to win these games
- he saw improvement in Morgan but still felt there was much to do
- he was happy with the effort and play of the defense. I personally agree. They held a 1000 yard back to 39 on 15 if I remember the stats. The offensive woes left the defense on the field too long and they predictably wore out
- he's not taking SD lightly at all and at the same time sees this as an opportunity for a confidence building blowout
- SD scored 77 though against non scholarship competition. He said everything has to go right to score that many points. Coming from a Texas Tech guy.
- he specifically praised the play of the offensive line, thin and all, going against a monster front seven
- MSU talk aside, he looked relaxed

My quick thoughts on the SD game. Our defense has an opportunity to validate the opinion that they are much improved. The offense has an opportunity to shake out and get some drives going. My hope and expectation is by halftime, we'll have offensive rhythm and will be effectively using the playmakers. I hope it is with Morgan, but if it takes changing QBs to be effective, so be it. I expect a confident win by 2-3 possessions and have the team go into Northwestern with heads high.
