First loss to an FCS/I-AA team in 30 years

Post by BGSU33 »

Should have happened last year, but last one I can remember is 1987 vs YSU.

Were also the only MAC team to lose to an FCS team this year. There's still a couple more FCS vs MAC games to be played, but it's looking like we're going to be the lone blemish this year.

I don't have the time to do it...but I wonder what the recent (last 20-25 years) history of FBS coaches who lose to an FCS school looks like. How many are gone within a year of doing so...how many build off that and become successful. ...

We do have one thing in common with our next opponent, Northwestern. They lost to Eastern Illinois last year. They went on to have a great season.

Ten years ago CMU lost to everybody in non conference play including North Dakota State (before they became the success they are now). CMU won the conference that year. It was kinda embarrassing but they were an exciting offense.

At least once in the last decade VT lost to an FCS - JMU maybe (again before they went nuclear). Tech started the season 0-2 in 2010 and then ripped off 11 straight wins to win the ACC and then were blown out by Stanford in the Orange Bowl.

These losses blow over and misery has company.

First off, Northwestern lost to Illinois State last year, not Eastern Illinois. Second, they went 7-6, which I don't think anyone would call a "great season." To their credit, they did keep fighting and did turn a terrible 0-2 start into a decent season. But we're not Northwestern, we're Bowling Green. Your example could also be applied to Virginia, as they started out 0-2 including an FCS loss and finished 2-10. I'm willing to bet the 2017 BG team is going to look a lot more like the 2016 Cavaliers than the 2016 Wildcats when it's all said and done.
