Future Non-Conference Schedule

Post by mbenecke »

BGSU Athletics just announced two future non-conference away games with the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

On September 25, 2021 and September 6, 2025, we will be traveling to TCF Bank Stadium to take on PJ Fleck (maybe?) and his Golden Gopher football team.

The 2021 non-conference schedule now officially looks like this:
9/4 @ Tennessee
9/11 vs. South Alabama
9/18 @ Louisiana Tech
9/25 @ Minnesota

The 2025 contest is the first non-conference game scheduled for that year.

Here's to being a whole lot better and more competitive by the time these games roll around.

One SEC team, one BIG , only one NC home game, which should spell another 5 game home schedule. :(

5 game home schedule with 1-2 of those games occurring on a weeknight. Based on this scheduling there is no reason to suggest massive stadium renovation.

I simply can't remember how the home / away split went when college football was 11 games per season. Did we manage to get 6 at home scheduling the old D1-AA teams?

Well the way our attendance figures are, when we do decide to renovate the Doyt, we can just play at Bowling Green High School Bobcat Stadium and still would not have a sell-out.

Without looking I think 5 was the norm.

Actually there was a promise a few yrs ago, perhaps by a former AD, to play 6 games at home. Happened for a few yrs., then we decided the MONEY games were more important.

It sucks, but it is also the correct call. Our athletic budget is almost dead last IN THE MAC! Without these money games and the ESPN money I doubt the budget would not even qualify us for DIII. It sucks, but it is also the economics of the situation we are in. So we do what must be done to survive.

I'm saying what actually happened. When we played 11 games we'd have 5 home games way more often than not

I'm bummed that we are playing two at Minnesota without a return game. They played in our stadium a few years back.

That is a whole lot of money games scheduled. We've got money games against Illinois, Oregon, Tennessee, Minnesota, Maryland, Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, Kansas State, Ohio State, UCLA, and Arizona State already scheduled in the next decade. I have to think the athletic department is expecting some massive spending on the horizon. Two thoughts come to mind - the cost of running a program (coaching salaries, recruiting, facilities, possibly even player compensation) is increasing and will continue to do so at an alarming rate, or a major stadium renovation is coming soon.
