Here is my measuring stick for showing we are going in the right direction
1. Win the game
2. Hold Miami to less than 150 rushing
3. Score more than 30 points
I like Jinks. HE is 100 percent more a Falcon than Babbers ever pretended to be!

Then you'll take that crap product on and off the field, week after week, year after year. You'll take that program that is hemorrhaging its fan base week by week, year by year. You can go to the games and join the other 1500 fans in your loyal support of a coach who is a total joke and has no idea what the hell he is doing. Enjoy your loyalty and enjoy the losing. It's the Journey... wrote:I will take the coach who truly wants to be here over they guy who comes in with two feet already out the door.

I never said blind loyalty. Give the guy a fair shake. No improvement this year let chips fall as they may. If Jinks does turn it around and we have success I hope he gets offers from Power five teams. The difference between a Clawson who left program in good shape and a Babbers who left cupboard bare is huge
Re: Miami
I will say, the stadium has been more full than a lot of you seem to give it credit for. Last year, we averaged 15,881 fans per game. In the first 2 games this year, with the first coming in the rain and the 2nd being against an FCS opponent, we have averaged 16,842 fans. Perhaps the fanbase isn't as upset as some on this board think? Perhaps we have played two Power 5 teams and then an FCS school while having a bunch of injuries, winning when we should and losing when we're expected to?
It's a lot more fun to be optimistic about these guys. There's a ton of talent on our team, now it's all about developing it and creating a winning culture. I'm legitimately excited about Saturday, and I wish more of you would jump on board.

Re: Miami
I don't think there's a ton of talent on this team. I think there's a few talented guys at the skill positions on offense...but outside of Croslen, I don't think we have much DL talent and the OL has been a massive disappointment. LB and DB's...Starting LB's are decent DB's OK...but not much real depth there
Give me a coach that wins and wants to advance his career over a guy who loses but loves it here. I'd love my employer too if I sucked at my job and still made $500k a year

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Miami
The DL was shoved around all day by an FCS offensive line. If that is a sign if things to come, our defense could actually be worse than last year, which is something of an accomplishment in a way.
If you cannot stop the run, you cannot control the clock. The opponent will run it all day which will make their offense low risk and make passes that much more effective. There is no priority bigger on this team than improving run defense. Otherwise the only way to win is a shootout where the opponent controls the clock and runs a lower risk offense.

Re: Miami
I completely agree with this. We need to fix the run defense as fast as possible. I think if we get that to even an average level, we'll be in pretty good shape.MarkL wrote:The DL was shoved around all day by an FCS offensive line. It's his 3rd year. Time to show things are moving in the right direction. For me, aside from Doegge and Clair, we haven't seen any improvement on either side of the ball. This is his last year if he doesn't go .500 in MAC play.

Re: Miami
The entire defense is undersized by FBS standards, and perhaps even FCS standards as evidenced by this past Saturday. Throw in the attrition from the summer and some injuries and you get what you get. We may be forced to start loading the box and going to man coverage on the outside to focus on stopping the run more. I fully expect all of our opponents to attack our linemen and backers the rest of the season.MarkL wrote:The DL was shoved around all day by an FCS offensive line. Re: Miami
Yup. This shouldn't be happening in year 3. We hear so much about great recruiting and bringing in big guys. Apparently that is not translating to results. 3 years of the same strength and conditioning coach and 3 years of depth building should have you in far better shape.jpfalcon09 wrote: The entire defense is undersized by FBS standards, and perhaps even FCS standards as evidenced by this past Saturday. And it also wouldn't hurt if 1/3 or so of his recruits weren't already gone from the team

Re: Miami
But this isn't year three for the strength and conditioning coach. There is a new couch in that position. So this is year one for that.
