Welp. We are where we are. The roster is thin, we have a plucky walk-on under center, and everyone is doing the best they can.

This will get better, but it isn't going to be fixed overnight.

Thought the team played hard for most of the game. The rest is obvious at this point.

Both Loy and Wade have serious accuracy issues but I like Loy in there as a slightly better runner.

Denny did a nice job today again. Although Denny is a tough kid, we need someone else to step up and run the ball with Jones & Clair out.

Hopefully Brooks, Jones and Ortega-Jones are not seriously hurt.

Denley is the only scholarship RB on the roster with Clair and Jones hurt. It's appalling how thin this program is. Loeffler and his staff deserve credit for getting what they can out of who's available.

Anyone know if BG tried to get another RB this season??

Frye had an injury that ended his career right? Hargrove transferred ... to junior college. That was a foolish decision for sure.

Beaker wrote:I would have been surprised to see us come out with the same intensity as last week, but this performance is very disappointing. We were thoroughly dominated at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. No chance to win a game when you are manhandled in the trenches like that.
Given how this season began (with all the people leaving and the very thin roster), I really had zero expectations. Any win beyond the one against Morgan State was going to be an upset -- and the win against Toledo was a huge upset, even if they end up losing the remainder of their games. The fact that Loeffler and his staff was able to get them to rally for that win -- makes this season an unqualified success in anyone's book. It also showed me that the man can coach and motivate his players. That's comforting to know moving forward.

The attention to detail includes weighing in each week, to make sure kids are eating properly. Emphasis on training, nutrition, water, sleep.... being commited to everything... so, lunch tray will not have shi€ on it. Many of these kids stayed up all night and ate garbage... ALL in at every is what is is demanded. It’s Tom Brady training vs. Johnny Manziel, if that helps.

So why didn't all that help us at Kent State? The point is that this team was headed to a bottom of the MAC finish until they surprisingly defeated their arch rival last weekend. It was a emotional, great, long over due victory for BG in that rivalry. It was a great step in the right direction for the program and this coaching staff.

Now if we come out and crap down our leg the rest of this season against our remaining MAC opponents. I'll still have questions about this coaching staff. I think you have to give a coach at least 3 years to implement his system with his players. I am anxious to see if this will be a catapult moment for this program and this coaching staff, or will it be a lightning-in-a-bottle flash.

I do feel more optimistic today than I felt a week ago.

Roll Along!

I wonder your thoughts on Toledo? I suppose that entire staff needs a thorough review by you. .......See what happens when you don’t have a QB?
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.

I was busy running errands Saturday so I didn't get a chance until now to watch any of the game. I caught most of a replay. Really it came down to three factors: line control, depth, and offensive miscues.

I suspect CMU with their toughness and run game is about what Loeffler is aiming for in the near future. They were not flashy. Instead they ran the ball well, handled our defensive line, and used tempo at times. Lots to learn from this game.

And if you want to be impressed, watch some of Ball State vs UT. Line dominance and depth, combined with winning individual matchups, led to that game getting out of hand quickly. Ball State wasn't even on my radar going into this season. I didn't realize exactly how many starters from last year returned, and also how deep that program is right now. They have quietly built something.
