Miami at Ohio this week for MAC east lead. Big time game. Ohio has to be favored but remember, Miami won last year in an upset.

And Miami grabs the win in Athens this year, too.MarkL wrote:Miami at Ohio this week for MAC east lead. Big time game. Ohio has to be favored but remember, Miami won last year in an upset.
The RedHawks have a real shot to make the MAC title game. They're now 4-1, they hold the head-to-head tiebreakers over Buffalo and Ohio. They finish with BG, Akron, and Ball State - I definitely think they're in the driver's seat in the East.

Updated standings
East:
Miami 4-1
Ohio 3-2
Buffalo 3-2
Kent 2-3
BG 2-3
Akron 0-5
West:
WMU 4-2
CMU 4-2
Ball State 3-2
UT 3-2
NIU 2-3
EMU 1-4
Miami still has us, Ball State, and Akron. Akron is bound for 0-12, so Ohio needs both us and BSU to beat Miami, plausible but unlikely.
Ohio needs to win out and they have us, WMU, and Akron. So the preseason MAC favorite is on life support now.
In the west, it is still a bit muddy. WMU has the tiebreaker over CMU but not UT and still has Ohio and NIU.
CMU still has Ball State (toss up) and UT (who they will wipe out). And UT, with the tie breaker over WMU, is still in it but they have I think two losses still to come against CMU and Buffalo, along with a disappointing and banged up NIU.
WMU is in the driver's seat but is nowhere near as stable as Miami.

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

With the great come back win by Kent St last night, Miami wins the East

Updated standings
East
Miami 5-1
Ohio 3-3
Kent State 4-6
Buffalo 3-3
Bowling Green 2-4
Akron 0-6
West
WMU 5-2
CMU 4-2
Ball State 3-2
NIU 3-3
UT 3-3
EMU 2-4
Miami has officially won the east and will be in Detroit for the first time since 2010. WMU is one win from the west title. If they crash and burn, CMU or BSU could theoretically win it though WMU has the tiebreaker over both.
Bowl eligible teams:
Miami 6-4
WMU 7-4
CMU 6-4
UT 6-4
In the running for bowl eligibility:
Ohio 4-6 (still has BG and Akron)
Kent State 4-6 (still has Ball State and EMU)
Buffalo 5-5 (still has UT and BG)
Ball State 4-5 (still has CMU, Kent, and Miami)
NIU 4-6 (still has EMU and WMU)
EMU 5-5 (still has NIU and Kent)
The divisional champs are guaranteed bowl games. Miami and WMU (even if they don't make the title game) are bowling.
Something to note is UT still has both CMU and Buffalo and both are playing far better than UT. If they lose both, they will be 6-6 and on a 3 game losing streak. I doubt they would get a bowl game.
Ohio most likely finishes 6-6 on a two game winning streak and they travel well to bowl games so they'll have a good chance. Buffalo probably finishes 7-5 and winning 5 of last 6 and that would get them a bowl.

Re: MAC standings
Back at the beginning of this thread, Ball State and Kent State had the clearest paths to the championship. They are now 4-7 (3-4) and 5-6 (4-3). Kent State beat Ball State last week and if they beat EMU on Friday, they're bowl eligible.
