The short answer is no. When you hire coaches, you're pretty much on the hook for the entire amount, unless you fire them for cause (like an NCAA violation) and that clause is in the contract, as it typically is. The university can -- and already has -- reduce the salaries of other staff, like the AD. I do not think coaches are in that group, but I could be wrong.

Just from reading/listening to Moose, it sounds like the coaching staffs voluntarily furloughed for the off-seasons. All recruiting was digitally, so there was some savings there.

The Columbus Dispatch offers more detail on Ohio State's decision to cancel its game with Bowling Green.

NJCAA moving all football to the spring. I have to think this is the first domino to fall that will lead to this. Change has tended to start at the lower levels and roll up.

The MAC Football Media Preview Day, which was already scheduled to be virtual (online), has been suspended indefinitely.

Folks, I have a feeling some bad news is on the horizon.

Apparently, many MAC schools are following Ohio State's model by not sharing the number of COVID cases they know about it. It makes me wonder if there is more out there than we are hearing about across the MAC.

Don't know how you can claim Act of God, but still play other teams. I am sure BG will get some money, but not the 2.2mil owed to them by the Big10 teams.

Most likely, BG will also have to actually play games to receive any sort of buyout.

Covid cases?!? Most of the positives don’t even have any symptoms. I now know close to ten people who have/had it, including my son. Some had the sniffles, at MOST. Quit the drama please.... if you are healthy, there is nothing to fear.

This is false, and a big part of the problem. I have seen first hand people who are younger and healthier than me (I'm 32) end up on a ventilator for three weeks. Spend some time working in a major hospital, and your tune will change pretty quickly. Most of my friends who have had it have just been sick for a few days and felt better, and that IS the majority of cases in younger people, but even if 1% of people in their 20s who get it end up in the hospital, it's far too risky to dismiss it as drama. The two people I know who have died from it were in their 60s/70s with underlying health issues, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't still be alive today. These dismissive attitudes about it really piss me off and I will never get over the anger I feel toward the people who have told me to my face that this is a hoax.

Conversely...you could be applying your limited perspective globally. You've seen a small number of young people get very sick, so you think that applies outside your hospital bubble when the numbers as a whole don't really reflect that

My one hospital bubble is not much different, and in many cases, much better off, than hundreds of other hospital bubbles around the country. A small number here and a small number there, and you end up with thousands of young people who are either dead or left with life long battles with heart and lung disorders, when none of them should have even gotten sick in the first place. I am perfectly aware of the numbers as a whole. To me, personally, one unnecessary death is too many.

Look, I get that college athletes are even more likely to not have an issue with COVID-19. But say that even 2% of players get it, which conservatively guessing there are about 20,000 D1 football players, that's 400 people. Then say only 5% of them have severe lasting effects, that's still 20 people who have potentially had their careers, if not their lives, ruined. I feel like that's too many. This also isn't even addressing the staff and students who have to support the teams during a season. I desperately want sports to come back, but I'd much rather see football move to the spring when there is going to be far less risk, PLUS the potential of having ticket revenue.

How do you figure that? I remember when summer was supposed to be safe. I remember when we were supposed to be back at work by Memorial Day. Heck, I remember "15 days to slow the spread". I don't see the rationale in expecting spring will be better, especially when flu season is between now and then.

There will be far more than 20 people in D1 football with long lasting life effects, far worse than any COVID hypotheticals they are creating now; from Knee injuries, neck injuries, concussions, arthritis. You want to shut down football for this!!? Your Covid worry for the players, remains wrong. Their bodies, their choice. They risk their lives, literally , every game and practice. They should not be shut down for a risk Of getting the sniffles.

What are you talking about? Should have never gotten sick in the first place? ITS A VIRUS !!! There are literally trillions of them. The one that kills me, might not give you a rash..... man, you need some counseling or something. Get back to reality....
