Re: Coaching carousel
I've long thought that Lance Leipold should be the next head coach at Iowa when Ferentz retires. So if Nebraska hires Leipold, that would be as good of a hire as anybody short of Urban Meyer.

Bryan Harsin probably next on this list. Auburn was dismantled at home by Penn State.

Re: Coaching carousel
Going into this year I figured another bad FSU season meant Norvell would be out and Deion Sanders would take over. But with FSU off to a good start, I have to wonder if Auburn assuming they coach shop soon would be interested in Sanders.

I would love for us to just be aggressive and grab a sad Frost and have him come be our coach. He had success at UCF. Go Grab Herm Edwards.....Marvin Lewis. I don't care. Get someone who has been great in some area but now stuck.

BGSU doesn't have the resources to bring in any of those guys. Edwards and his staff are also facing pending recruiting violations.Globetrotter wrote: ↑Sun Sep 18, 2022 10:41 pm I would love for us to just be aggressive and grab a sad Frost and have him come be our coach. If Frost is smart he sits out a year or two and counts his millions. Honestly I don't think he's much of an improvement over what BGSU currently has at head coach.

BG springs one of the biggest upsets of the early season. Beats a team that is the national darling after upsetting Notre Dame. A clean, turnover free game in front of a great crowd. And your first post is to come in here and ask for a new coach?
B*tch when we lose, b*tch when we win. Seriously, some of you deserve all the s**t BG football has been through since Babers left.

Don't see Globe's post as overtly negative. You can be happy about the results on Saturday, especially for the players but also be rooted a bit in reality that the program hasn't shown enough under this staff to get too ahead of yourself. Add in the dynamic of a new AD likely being hired before the conclusion of the football year and any scenario is still plausible.MarkL wrote: ↑Mon Sep 19, 2022 8:46 am BG springs one of the biggest upsets of the early season. Openly rooting for the staff to fail is a different story.

It's not just globe. You've got bunch of people including an overt parent of a player saying the win was just luck. That's the first thing you take away from that win? Not how hard the team played? Not how clean they played? Not the offense that kept hitting downfield pass after downfield pass for the first time since Babers was around? Not the crowd energy? Nope, for some the first reaction is to invalidate the win and fire the coach.
I swear some folks around here deserve all the s**t this team has been through. It's old. Very very old.

Re: Coaching carousel
I didn’t say it was pure luck. I further quantified it, for those that would clearly take it wrong. I tried to suggest the wins VS big programs, VS losses against bottom feeders is luck/bounce of the ball, not a quantifiable trend. I certainly did not diminish the win.
I truly don’t care if SL stays or goes at this point.

I'm done with that thread because I don't want to talk negative about the game. It was a great win. We played hard. We didn't quit when it would have been easy to do so. We did play a pretty clean game of football.MarkL wrote: ↑Mon Sep 19, 2022 9:45 am It's not just globe. You've got bunch of people including an overt parent of a player saying the win was just luck. But I'm also not ignoring the fact that the total body of work at BG (and prior to) makes me still believe a coaching change is on the horizon. I'd love nothing more than to see this team make noise in the MAC to push that change in the future, if for no other reason than I want the basketball coach to be fired first and I don't think we have the dollars to do both. I'll just say, and end it with this: I need to see the team start consistently competing to that level and start coming on the positive side of net yardage consistently before I'm convinced that we have the correct coaches in place.
None of that takes an ounce of credibility away from the victory on Saturday. Nor does anything lessen how excited I was seeing them pull a victory that nobody expected. It's especially great to see that win happen at a reasonably full Doyt. Hopefully there are some people more likely to attend future games because of the excitement of winning that one.

I don't intend to diminish the win either. It was (and will be all week) a wonderful day to be a Falcon fan.roguewarrior wrote: ↑Mon Sep 19, 2022 10:04 am I didn’t say it was pure luck. My point is far more that the model of that game (getting outgained by 175 yds but forcing 3 turnovers, 2 of them in the redzone) are VERY difficult propositions to sustain winning on a consistent basis. But they are the sort of things that can lead to an upset in these OOC games, and when it happens we should all absolutely enjoy it. They are also the sort of things that can spark a team to greater confidence; things they can build upon to start to skew things in their direction towards a more sustainable model of winning.
For instance, Matt McDonald is not a garbage QB. When they open the scheme up he can make plays downfield, and perhaps more importantly, the WRs can make plays on the ball when given chances. So do it more often. No more 3rd & 10 plays where you run 2 guys on routes and neither past the sticks. Let the players make plays and let's see what happens.

Not how hard the team plays, not preparation, not the home crowd, none of that. Luck. Invalidating the win. Again a parent of a player anonymously using this board as a platform to stab the coach in the back.I’d say it’s luck. Some good bounces of the ball, the wind, the refs, one missed tackle, etc to win those games, and lose to bottom feeders.

Might as well add in that I believe we will find out Marshall is a rather average team by seasons end. Especially in a really good Sun Belt. Good win, now don't lose to Akron again. Oh, and that BG +18 paid out nicely.

Re: Coaching carousel
Totally out of context. It was a conversation on why we had managed big upsets and lose to others. I was there on the field celebrating with the team and coaches.MarkL wrote: ↑Mon Sep 19, 2022 10:16 amYour first reaction to Loeffler and his upsets:roguewarrior wrote: ↑Mon Sep 19, 2022 10:04 am I didn’t say it was pure luck.
