Shots fired by Ty Eigner re the old AD in the Blade story?
Hockey coach Ty Eigner, whose program is playing in the shadow of Slater’s looming renovation, called it “nice to have somebody who’s finally ready to come to work.

Furthermore, for the hockey folks...
None of van der Merwe’s previous three schools have had Division I hockey teams, but he pledged support to a program he praised as having “a unique space in the history of Bowling Green State University.”
“There’s a national championship. You have a fanbase that rabidly supports this program. Students support this program,” van der Merwe said. “Our commitment to that will be sustained. People come to Bowling Green, because they want that hockey experience.”

And some quotes from those in Tucson...
Van der Merwe's UA colleagues were among those praising Bowling Green's hire.
"I could not be more proud of Derek's accomplishments at Arizona," UA president Dr. Robert C. Robbins said. "He has been an impact player during some very challenging times for all athletic programs His efforts and leadership have put us in a strong position for the future and while we hate to lose him, Bowling Green is getting a true champion to lead their athletics department."
Football coach Jedd Fisch called van der Merwe "an incredible partner as we worked tirelessly to rebuild Arizona football." Women's basketball coach Adia Barnes called him "a dynamic leader with a clear vision."
Said men's basketball coach Tommy Lloyd: "Derek is a great guy and it was a great experience working with him the past year. He's well-rounded in all facets of running an NCAA Athletic Department and is definitely a get-stuff done guy!! Bowling Green is getting a great person and leader who is well-equipped to lead them in the ever-evolving world of college athletics."
A South Africa native, van der Merwe was an all-MAC offensive lineman at Central Michigan and a former team captain.Van der Merwe began his Central Michigan tenure as an academic adviser, then worked his way up to associate director of athletics. He was CMU's chief operating officer under Heeke when he left for Austin Peay.
Heeke called van der Merwe an exceptional administrator "who always centers on the very best for student-athletes."
"Coaches, administrators, supporters, student-athletes, community members and all associated with BGSU will love his enthusiasm, passion and vision," Heeke said. "This is an absolute 'home run' hire!"

I think he was just noting that was nice to have an AD again after many weeks without one.
I thought it was interesting that Scot Loeffler -- who was at Central Michigan for a couple of years while van der Merwe was there -- also offered a quote. “Derek is an incredible choice for BGSU,” Loeffler said. “…His passion and work ethic will be relentless at our great school. Derek understands the importance of working together as a team and prides himself on his ethics and character.”

BG recently announced remodeling plans for the Slater Family Ice Arena. Hockey will be fine.notkithughes wrote: ↑Tue Oct 25, 2022 11:27 amI totally disagree with this. Either we are in on hockey or we are not. Clearly we are in on football with this hire which is fine with me. But BGSU is in a very unique position in that we have both football AND hockey at the DI level. We are consistently underfunded...even though some posters on this board seem to think a new AD is going to make it rain money all of a sudden.Flipper wrote: ↑Tue Oct 25, 2022 11:16 amI don't think he needs to know a puck from duck to run a program that includes hockey. He's an administrator not a coach...the big question is, can he plug in the right people to run the program and can he correctly fit the program in to an operating hierarchynotkithughes wrote: ↑Tue Oct 25, 2022 10:19 am We shall see.
On the flip side, AZ football is arguably the worst team in the Power 5. Not sure what he is going to do to support Loeffler or the program.
And then there is hockey. SMH...... Once again, the only program BGSU can legitimately say we COULD win a national championship...... the guy has no experience running that program that I see.
We DO need experience at the AD level if we have a D1 hockey program. That's like saying you don't need any experience with basketball to be the AD at BGSU.
SMH again!!!!!

There was scuttlebutt about Moose dragging his feet on the Slater renovation project following covid. The project needed to be requoted since the cost of materials had gone up and donors were waiting for a number. Fundraising for it was still going on over the summer as well. So if there's any animosity between Ty and Bob, that would be a likely source.Schadenfreude wrote: ↑Tue Oct 25, 2022 6:14 pmI think he was just noting that was nice to have an AD again after many weeks without one.

There's no way Bob would ever drag his feet on a renovation project. Next you'll tell me he sat on a million dollar check for years.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 26, 2022 11:39 am There was scuttlebutt about Moose dragging his feet on the Slater renovation project following covid. Five year contract, $300K per year for DVDM. $20K relocation stipend and up to 15% in performance bonuses. He was making $282K at Arizona.
He owes BG $150K if he leaves early and BG owes him whatever base salary is unpaid on the contract if he is terminated without cause.
Moosbrugger was making $275K base.
