Glad he's aware of that release point issue. He's going to be a good one. It's going to be a fun few years with Omar under center!

I kind of like Omar's side-way release, even though it is something he should work on. He reminds of Phillip Rivers and the way that he throws the ball. I think when all is said in done, his game will be very similar to Rivers, except more athletic than Rivers. He will be the same size Rivers was once he is done with school and that 6'4' 240 or so....
He has a quick release, but sometimes it looked like he did a couple of things that weren't mechanically sound...
One of the things he did was shortarm the ball, where it looked like he was just pushing it out to his receivers and guiding it there, instead of throwing the ball and leading it there....
The other thing I noticed was that he threw some side-arm...now, that does make the release seem a little quicker, but no quarterback can get away with that too much...the reason is that the ball comes out too low and will get batted down or tipped at the line, and that seemed to happen a few times yesterday in Norman....
Before the game, during warm-ups, my friends and I were watching the BG players warm up, and we all noticed that Omar switched up his release point...still, though, to me, he looked more accurate of a dual-threat QB than Vince Young and Reggie McNeal (who somtimes seem to not be able to hit the broadside of a barn)....I think he will be one of the better QBs in the country in time.....

Philip Rivers has a funky release, and completed 70% of his passes last season.topdaug wrote: The other thing I noticed was that he threw some side-arm...now, that does make the release seem a little quicker, but no quarterback can get away with that too much...the reason is that the ball comes out too low and will get batted down or tipped at the line, and that seemed to happen a few times yesterday in Norman....
Bernie Kosar also comes to mind and who was damn good in college & the NFL.
That said, I agree work on the mechanics to help avoid the batted balls. There is something to be said for a QB who can throw from all angles to get the ball where it needs to be.
