When you're in charge and you acknowledge that you have no idea how to fix the problems that have defined your failure...you're already quitting.

Just going off the past, Jinks was fired after Week 7 (1-6 record). Highly doubt anything happens this week.
We had an athletic director when Jinks was let go. That's not the case right now. Until we have an athletic director in place, I wouldn't expect anyone to give Loeffler a hard push.

Loeffler really seemed defeated in his post-game comments. He seemed out of answers.

But unless Loeffler decides his heart isn't in this anymore, I imagine we will stay this course until we have a new athletic director.

Actually, we had a paycheck collector posturing as the AD when Jinks was let go. A Con Man named Kit Hughes was actually calling the shots.

jpfalcon09 wrote: Sat Oct 08, 2022 4:49 pm I see it the opposite. No reason for a new AD to have their first official big move letting someone go. Rogers can do that and name an interim until the end of the year. Then AD gets to make his/her hire.
Yeah, we don't agree on this. It seems to me it would be really bad form for a university president to fire a football coach for football-related reasons. (Much as I wouldn't want an athletic director making academic decisions.)

I also don't see the benefit of sparing a new AD from making the decision. If the new AD doesn't have the courage (or whatever) to do it, we probably shouldn't be hiring that person anyway, right?
Respect your view on the matter. My opinion rests in that the AD will probably not be installed until sometime in November. Entirely possible it plays out exactly as you see.
And I respect yours.

Perhaps Loeffler won't need a huge push. Perhaps he would prefer to announce he is moving on from BGSU before the new athletic director gets here.

Best case scenario is Loeffler goes the Blackney route and steps away now or announces he will be done at the end of the season. Short of that he needs to go, full stop. I am in the camp that he needs to be gone before the new AD comes in. I guess it could be the interm AD or the President. But with so much negativity around the place right now I would want the new AD to bring positivity from day 1. In my mind there will more organizational issues that need addressed that will see others move out or around.

This right here. We see the same things happening from 2-3 years ago. My God how unprepared we were for this game. Coach Loeffler said in year 4 we would start contending....well? And quit effin saying "to the moon". People are laughing at us with that sheet.

Dino is 5-0 and rolling at Syracuse, Clawson is 5-1 at Wake, Brandon just retired after ending his career with a ton of success as a HC in D3 and urban for all of his faults...is one of the GOATS

You can get great coaches to work here...you just need to hire them for the right reasons

I agree. Blackney knew it was over and did the right thing after that Buffalo game. Man, what a horrible night that was. UB broke a 20 game losing streak and got their first 1-A win after moving up from 1-AA. I sat in the rain, alone, drinking beer in the parking lot wondering what the hell was happening to BG. Walked down the street back the Red Roof Inn and got drunk as a skunk to ease the pain. But Blackney knew his time was up and did the professional thing so BG could start the search for a new coach. But his first 4 years? Probably the best 4 years in BG history, outside of the Doyt Perry years. 36-8-2. And the losses were to WVU, aOSU, Wisconsin, Va Tech, NC State all on the road. 2 losses to CMU in '93 & '94 (17-15 and 36-33). I think the other was a close loss at Navy in 1993...but he beat tsun every year as well as the team down I 75. I love those years....the Killer B's on D. QB's Erik White and Ryan Henry (who for me, living in Green, got to see those dudes play at Massillon and Canton McKinley), solid RB's, great receivers, solid LB's and some very strong O line players.

Colorado Mines is Division II. But your point remains. We've had a lot of good coaches come through here.

I was there, too. It was a horrible night. I've thought about that game often lately.

Pretty hard to erase that one from the memory bank, my friend. How the UB fans just let us BG fans have it after the game.

It was the moment when it was absolutely clear to everyone paying the slightest bit of attention that it was time to change direction. Gary Blackney knew it, too, and he handled the situation gracefully.

I was in school and friends with quite a few guys on the team back then.

It hit many of those players EXACTLY the same way as it hit us as fans. The ones who actually cared were embarrassed and in shock. The ones who weren't feeling that way were the ones who couldn't survive the Urban Meyer experience.

If it matters, that loss to UB did spark something in those guys to NEVER want to feel that again. That spark helped them survive the Urban Meyer camp that would largely be illegal these days. It helped them get to what the 2001 season was. But damn, that was rough.

The only thing Gary Blackney (class act) did that annoyed me was burning Josh Harris’ redshirt for a few wildcat plays in the red zone. I was excited in the moment because it gave the team a spark but 1 more year of Josh Harris would have been great for BG football and his career.
We saw some exciting QB’s after Harris as well.
I proudly chose to be a Falcon and a Falcon I will remain until the end.

Akron leading 16-10 at the half. Good for Akron. I hope the Zips beat them. I just turned it on, but apparently it was 16-0 at one point.
