In his press availability this morning, Coach Loeffler said that the team has suffered a couple of serious injuries that will force some adjustments. He isn't being specific, apparently not wanting to tip his hand to Fordham.
"We had an interesting training camp to say the least," Loeffler said. "There [were] signs of us performing at a very high level whenever we could get the whole team on the practice field. It's been an injury-ridden training camp to say the least. There [were] a couple of injuries that I'm not going to mention that are, that will cause two to three players to be out probably for the year. I'll announce that after the game."
In response to a question, Loeffler said this: "We're going to have to move some people around. Nothing like we've planned, to say the least. Nothing like what we practiced this summer in terms of personnel. But we'll have to move some guys around. Some people will have to step up.
"The wonderful thing about our offense and defense and special teams system is that we're extremely flexible. We can do a lot with who we have. It's not like we set in our ways and have to run one style of offense. So, we're going to take our personnel -- we've got good enough players, no question about it. We need to put them in the right spots."

I'm guessing 2 of those 3 are lineman based on the moving around comment. Unfortunate start to the season
Loeffler's plan to wait to announce those players until after the game got thrown out the window quickly
We need that OL continuity...so I hope it's not an issue there. Bazelak is a pretty effective QB with a clean pocket. Less so if he's pressured (like most QB's)
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
I was at the practice in Canton and the offense didn’t look great. Orth was dressed but didn’t get any reps so I’m assuming he hurt. Bazelek looked bad, in a controlled scrimmage the offense went 3 and out the first series, after another miss and an ineffective run the second series they hit a big pass play the second score. The second unit with Anderson at QB was a lot more effective and sharp than the 1’s. And it wasn’t the offensive line, it was Bazelek missing open targets and offensive miscues.

I was there as well and thought the same thing. I am almost wishing we just go with Anderson at QB now. Bazelak didn't look good at all. You're in year 6 now? The Oline will be solid and we should be able to run the ball with our backs. But Bazelak....you sure you wanna keep riding that horse?
The D will be good and we had a kicker nailing 55+ yard FG. I think it was #14, Jackson Kleather, from Tipp City.

FWIW, Loeffler said after the practice in Canton that the guys were dead-legged. The team will continue to be only as good as it's QB is.

This doesn't sound good.
Damn man. I didn't get a chance to watch his presser yet but this isn't the kind of news I was hoping or expecting to hear. I heard one of his interviews this summer where he sounded as high on this year's team as he ever has. He said BG was going to win the MAC unless two things happened: key injuries or that the staff/team messes it up (chemistry, execution, decision making, etc). Injuries are never good. I know they happen, but when they happen to certain players, you can't overcome the loss. We have a number of guys who are not replaceable at a few positions where there is a huge drop off to the next guy. I can only hope it wasn't one of them. I guess we'll find out in two days...

I picked up on the "moving around" comment and it too made me think of the OL as well, which would be unfortunate because when discussing the OL this year he said, "we finally have an OL." It's been a major issue for BG for several years now. I was on campus a couple weeks ago and stopped in the stadium because the team was doing what appeared to be live game simulations. I was only there for about a minute or two before I was approached and politely asked to leave because it was a closed practice. I wasn't there long enough to look around or notice anyone on crutches or in a sling. It's possible these injuries happened before the event in Canton for anyone who went.

Fannin the first ever player from any conference to be a POTY from the tight end position, and only the second ever to be OPOTY. Already has a place in the BG HOF.
