I believe Loeffler actually gave up playcalling on offense a year or two ago. I’m fairly confident that OC Max Warner is the one calling plays on Gameday.

There was a video from the Ball State game with Loeffler mic’d up, and you hear him complimenting “Max” on playcalls a few times in that. I’m sure it’s a collaborative process, but I’m pretty sure it’s Warner’s gig.

If they bring him back for a sixth season, BG deserves whatever bad happens so far as the wins/losses go. You either are satisfied with mediocrity or you are strong and confident enough to make a move.

I guess we'll find out a lot about our new(ish) AD when this season concludes.

Good info…I would think he’s still very involved with the offensive playcalling…if I’m wrong and he has backed off, that somehow that makes it worse. Maybe we get the MAC to suspend him from coaching game days like Harbaugh? He can coach during the week and then stay home on gameday.

He's coming back. If you want a change, reach out to Derek directly.

There's a better chance of Loeffler finding a better job than there is of him getting fired. And I would put those odds at less than .1%

I also think the playcalling thing is overblown. Maybe it's too blurry of a line but I think the overall scheme is a bigger issue than individual play calls. Play calling success is often random, but it's a bigger concern whether the scheme has a answers or not.

I have a major problem with the fact that last years MacDonald at 2600 yards was the best passing season we've had under Loeffler. And other than Toledo the last 2 yrs (combining orth and Bazelak) we virtually never can throw for 300 yds in a game. You could maybe excel that way if your QBs were dynamic runners (our have barely even been adequate) or if your OL was able to dominate (ours never has been), but it's a tough road if you can't throw the ball. We are 3rd in the MAC in scoring this year (my god is the MAC bad if this is the 3rd best offense in the league), but it's also the first time we've been in the top half.

Team scoring is up partly to do with the defense generating turnovers and setting up short fields. I'd be curious to see how many scoring drives have initiated from inside their own 30 yard line.

Good point. You made me go look at yardage and the yards would tend to look like you're onto something. We're 7th in rushing, passing, and total offensive yards (crazy). We're 5th in yards per play and also the most penalized offense in the league.

All told were probably middle/upper middle of the MAC offensively.

Welcome to a full stadium with plenty of pageantry next weekend. I recommend getting beers at your tailgate at half then coming back in if you dont want to watch the HOF inductions and the UTMB playing their set.
