Combine '05 This is Hawk Talking

Post by Jhawk10 »

People that are fans of those BG players that did the combine I thank you a lot. For the people that doubt that Cole, my self(hawk), and the others players will make a team you don't know anything. You watch the game that is it. You don't know what it takes to play this game year around. If you workedout with the BG Football team you would know what it would take to play college football and the next level. I love all my BG fans, but if you don't please think before you speak or type. When we do make we will make BGSU happy. Holla :D

That is true, you speak from a point where a lot us will never see in our lives, and that's actually playing game. I don't think we were doubting you guys, we were just wondering if you would ever get a chance because not that many teams would give you guys a chance because you play at a persay "mid-major" team. We may bear that label, but damned if we don't go out their and compete and win against the "big boys" on any given Saturday. I think I speak on behalf of a lot of people hear when I say we wish you guys the best, and make sure you let those guys up on the pro level know who BG is. Ay Ziggy Zoomba!

Welcome James. Glad to see another BG athlete post on these boards. A lot of people here think they are experts. It will be interesting to see some of your comments. One thing we all have in common though is that we want to see our Falcons do well. No matter what we'll be rooting for you and the other guys on Sundays.

Great to hear from you Hawk 10. Thanks so much for all the great things you've done both on & off the field for BG football. I assure you that we all appreciate the hard work you've done to not only be a full time student, but also put ini all the hard work to be a full time athlete.

That said, I'll assume that I'm one of the people who you are referring to. Now I am not EVER going to claim to fully comprehend the work you all have put into your sport. Nor will I ever doubt the work ethic that you all have to work your butts off to succeed on the next level.

However, I do watch a LOT of football; both college & NFL. I also look forward to the NFL draft as much as any game. I am obviously no expert, but you do come to notice what sorts of things NFL teams look for when choosing new players every year. I do agree that both of you offer the sort of athletic ability & numbers that should warrant a definite shot at the next level. I also do NOT doubt your work ethic. My only question is the numbers to get a valid shot. Playing at a mid major neither of you have the raw stats (in the 04-05 season) that are going to cause an NFL team to use a draft pick; they're looking for HUGE stats from a school like BG. Fortunately for us we didn't need one person to have huge stats because we had so many talented players that worked together for the best of the TEAM.

If you are as adamant and willing to put the work in that you talk like you are going to then none of that will matter at all. NFL teams average about 1-2 UDFAs that make the team every year. Go into training camp, work your butt off, and there is no reason that eiither of you couldn't be in that group.

Just because I have stated that I think your odds are long don't take that to mean that I don't want to see you do well. I absolutely want both of you to succeed and become NFL mainstays, stars even. I constantly brag up BG guys to other NFL fans, and I want nothing more than to have both of you signed by & make the Browns roster.

As a conclusion, I would like to thank you for that big pass play at Purdue. At the time that was the most exciting play I've ever seen live. Great catch & run on your part! Thanks again for everything you've given us BG fans, we can ask for nothing more.

That had to be pretty frustrating to run that far and not score. You're right Hammb, that was a great play, that was the moment I believed we were going to win. Didn't Cole throw an amazing block on that play?

Hawk, Welcome to the board. You directed some comments at me I am sure. Let me set some things straight. I want you to get drafted and play in the NFL for 15-20 years breaking every receiving record there is. I would give anything to have your athletic ability, football ability and work ethic. With that said...There are 117 Div. 1 teams. And only 32 NFL teams. Running the numbers you cant expect a Mid Major WR who is fifth on his own team in receptions to get drafted. If every team drafted a WR thats 32 Wideouts taken. Only 31 went last year. With the size you possess I would think your best chance will be to go to the Arena league. (Theres a team in Columbus and I migth actually go to the games if you were there). With he number of WRs that come out and ones taken I would be very surprised if you were in someones training camp or get an invite to NFL Europe. You lose nothing by trying, but you do lose by having low expectations. So dont listen to me. With your size and speed you could destroy people as a gunner on STs if you get the chance. That is easily your best opportnity to latch on to a team. Good Luck. And please make me eat my words. And keep us updated. I would love to see you in a Bengals Uniform next season. But I would also love to go out and watch In a Detroyers Uni if it comes to that. Thanks for your time at BG. good luck.

"you cant expect a Mid Major WR"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And therein lies the problem. This is a basketball label and has little relevence to BG's position in the college football landscape. That it:

1) One of only 117 Division I-A schools, the highest in the NCAA (as opposed to the 10 million D-I basketball schools)

2) A member of a conference (MAC) that has made mince-meat out of the so-called "high major" schools more times than can be counted, a reality well documented in even the national media and ESPN.

3) BG further seperates itself by being a program that has contended for national Top 25 rankings in each of the last 3 years

Best of luck Hawk!!

Are you inferring that the use of colloquial language is indicative of a lack of intelligence?
