Interview Discussing Student Attendance At Football Games
Interview Discussing Student Attendance At Football Games
Dan Myer and Will O’Leary provide some great information about student attendance at football games and the demand for the Toledo game plus the philosophy of the athletic department regarding student engagement and the student experience. Nearly 5,000 students have been at each of the two home games in a section that seats 4,000. They have over 7,000 requests for student tickets for Saturday’s game so they are going to provide free student seating on the West Side in seats they admit they could sell. This is such a great example of our University putting the student experience ahead of other concerns. When I was a freshman 45 years ago this fall I always felt I was valued and the university was always trying to make my experience a positive one. It’s great to know that 45 years later that is still the approach. I doubt very seriously that that student experience is very high on the priority list of the athletic department at Ohio State. I hope these students recognize how special it is to attend an institution which places such emphasis on the student experience.

It's a refreshing change from the sit down and STFU approach of years gone by
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Interview Discussing Student Attendance At Football Games
The other option is actually winning. I’m sure those who choose Ohio State also like seeing a team win. Something that requires no cat, no inflated impressions, no constant back patting, just organic winning.

3 straight bowl games sure beats the hell out of the dark times from 2016-2021. We're mediocre now, but pointed in the right direction, at least.
Why are we still grinding this axe? The people who hired Jinks are gone. Kit Hughes can't hurt you anymore, brother. Mary Ellen Mazey (bless her heart) is a thousand years old. Chris Kingston took his orange truck to Texas a decade ago. Can't we put some faith in the folks who are here and actively making positive changes?

Again, celebrating a standard being better than awful. Football mediocre, hockey mediocre, both basketballs mediocre at best, that’s the actual results. Re: Interview Discussing Student Attendance At Football Games
I think there's a difference between being mediocre right now and being mediocre forever.
Football and hockey are both moving in the right direction after down periods. After this weekend, football is generally projected to win out and have their first 8+ win season in 10 years and make their 4th straight bowl game. With a first year head coach and like 50 new players, that's not nothing. Hockey has their best freshman class in years - they're going to take time to gel, but they are raising the bar talent-wise in a league that is there for the taking. Men's basketball had what I viewed as a fluke year last year from injuries - I'm more likely to believe Simon is a competent coach who had bad luck last year than I am to believe he was a one year wonder. WBB... I'm starting to have one foot out the door on Chmiel, but I'll give it a chance - his resume when hired was impressive, at least. Baseball has been good. Volleyball is the class of the league. Both soccer programs re competitive. If you wanna talk trash about gymnastics or swimming, you can start the debate there. Stuff takes time, but I know you know that.
Also, I think the Pudge thing is goofy, but I also understand a program with our relatively nonexistent resources needs to squeeze every last drop out of their 15 minutes of fame while they have it. My 2 year old son loves Pudge, so it's cool with me. I don't think it's worth getting bent out of shape over.

While I haven't seen what he wrote (thank you block feature), I can easily guess based on your reply. Which leads me to ask why you're bothering to engage with this guy? He rolls out the same ol' trollbait time after time and all attempts at logic fall flat. He's still going to be whining about The Con Man 10 years from now.mbenecke wrote: ↑Wed Oct 08, 2025 8:15 am I think there's a difference between being mediocre right now and being mediocre forever.

That is very cool to provide the students the tix on the West side. The more noise we have to drown out the scuds fans, the better. And the student section is off the charts these days...they stick around all game no matter what. They're loud and crazy. Falcon eh that kicks ass....
Damn shame this isn't a 7 pm kickoff....all day tailgating and build up.

Earlier start at least allows more families to be able to attend. I know several people at work who are going and bringing their kids along simply because of the noon kick. Give and take like any situation.Falconfreak90 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 08, 2025 2:51 pm That is very cool to provide the students the tix on the West side. Kit Hughes put a microphone in Pudge's tracking chip so he can spy on guest. That's the only rational explanation.Bgsu2016 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 10, 2025 4:52 pmI heard Kit Hughes actually used to own Pudgeguest44 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 08, 2025 8:05 am
