There's still hope for a bowl. 3 games left.
If beating Eastern, Akron and UMass convinces you we are a bowl team......sheesh!
To be fair, we quite literally would be bowl bound by winning out. That would get us to 6-6 bowl eligibility, and we'd be heading somewhere for the postseason.
You are correct but I think you are missing the point. This year MAC Football is horrible and this team is somewhere between bad to mediocre. If our goal is to get smoked in a bowl game, we really need to reconsider our priorities.
The MAC is bad every year anymore.
I get where you're coming from, but what should our goal actually be? Make the playoff and compete for a national title? We schedule 2-3 losses every year for money so that our athletic department can exist, and that almost completely eliminates us (and like 60 other teams who do the same thing at the G5 level) from the CFP's single bid for small schools before we even start conference play. So what do we really have to play for? Pretty much boils down to shooting to be the champion of the worst conference and fighting to be in a mediocre bowl game every year. That's just the reality of this conference anymore.
Our goal should be to win championships....that matter. That means we need to get to the Big Dance or Final Four. Getting to a "Bowl Game" played in December is not worth the investment. Yes, I'm saying reduce funding to football and focus on sports where we can be not only successful and nationally competitive.
Women's and Men's basketball along with hockey should be our priorities plain and simple. We can make the post season in both men's and women's basketball and if appropriately funded, be one of the top mid major programs in the country which means we are playing in March. For hockey, the last four Nati's have been won by Western Michigan, Denver (twice) and Quinnipiac. There is no excuse for BG not reaching the Frozen Four in the next 5 years.
Everybody knows how the Eddie George era ends. Either he does great (which doesn't necessarily mean an championship) and leaves for a better deal, or he $#!ts the bed and is fired/resigns. Either way, we are again starting over with a new coach.
I just don't understand why BG focuses so much time and energy on a sport we KNOW the P4 totally owns, sees us as a joke and we just accept it year after year while getting less.
