Any chance Ohio would consider a former Ohio State running back as coach?
Come on now, Archie Griffin is way too old to be coaching.
Fair point, I guess I was thinking way too much about the impressions it might get.
I am mostly with you on being annoyed that tweets sometimes feel like THE focus, but we have to admit that they have undeniably increased interest in the program. 111,335 people at the Doyt this year was the most in at least 18 years. 38.9% increase in attendance year over year.
Like, I'd like to win too. But this "fluff" stuff is also part of building a program. And there's no doubt they are crushing this part of the job.
It's not fluff. It's a coerced marketing campaign to get people invested in BG football. Come to a game, hopefully enjoy the experience, cultivate that relationship, and then get enough people wanting to get involved with NIL fundraising. No different than professional franchises hitting you up to become a season ticket holder if you buy seats to a single game off Ticketmaster. There's been so much complaining about this on this board for years, now it's working, so it's time to bitch about something else. Anything to support a narrative I guess.
I'm VERY curious to see how this stuff fares next year.
I attended 2 games this year. First time in years. I did not at all enjoy the product on the field (fully understanding he was behind the 8 ball and it will take time, etc, I'm not saying fire the guy). Moreover, I don't know that they did much to improve the game day stuff that will keep people invested. The homecoming park was fun, couldn't ask for a more perfect weather day in fall in BG. But other than that, they still have really stupid rules divvying parking up into seemingly arbitrary sections that guarantees you cannot tailgate with your friends if you're not all similar Falconclub/seasonticket/etc status holders. Food truck options in the stadium come/go. Lines for both food trucks and stadium kiosks were ridiculous, meaning you need more options if you're getting people in the stadium. Kiosk concessions were the typical awful (hate to say it, but the polleyeyes sticks are damn near inedible. Sorry, it just doesn't work).
I applaud the department and George in selling the program and getting people to the Doyt. It was really cool to see the stadium full again, and I did have a good time. But the product on the field doesn't have me wanting to go back, and so many of the gameday experience things are the same complaints we've had for decades. I cannot help but worry that a lot of this was a once-in-a-lifetime organic viral cat video that could never be replicated and they missed their opportunity to hook folks (even people like me) into attending in the future.
In the real season at the Stroh I think Simon is a fantastic coach, and I think this year's team has a chance to make some real noise in the MAC, but the experience stuff continues to suck. I do love that blimp though.
