I thought I would give a quick update. Both boys made it into the District Pool, which is basically the Dayton - Miami Valley area.
Sam's group (1991 - so Sam is 13 yrs old) had cuts at the District level. So from about 50-60 players in the Fall, Sam made the District Pool of about 40 players this past March. Sam's age group gets shortened to a group of about 22 that get to attend a 2 day try-out to enter the State Pool. Sam did not make the final cut. He seems okay with it. Making the District Pool was a great accomplishment for Sam. Particularly in his first year of trying.
Nicholas's group (1993 - so Nicholas is 11 rs old) does not have cuts at the District level from Fall to Spring. The idea is to keep as many players as possible. After Districts, however, they select 16 players to advance directly to State Pool Training. So out of 53 players, Nicholas made the State Pool. He will get to train weekly with some of the top players and coaches over the next couple of months.
We happy for both boys - Nicholas immediately called his best friend to tell him the news.
The next step would be Regionals (Midwest), then the National Team. I am not expecting Nicholas to make the regional pool. But then again this is the same kid who made playing Candyland a blood sport.
I would have loved to made the BG/Marshall game this past Fall, but like I said back in October, this is a chance for my boys to advance their athletic experience and if it meant missing a BG football game so be it. But as it turned out - it was worth it for both boys.
Thought I would pass on the good news.
