Post by factman »

Paul Krebs announced tonight on the Falcon Nest radio show that the target date to have the new SAC COMPLETED, is June of 06. That is the first date I have heard mentioned with this new facility. :D

That's great to hear! We forgot all about the radio show tonight! (Grrr!) We had been camping at Maumee Bay all weekend (watched the game at Ralphie's!) and got home late this afternoon. It doesn't feel like a Monday, so completely forgot about the show.

What all was discussed on the show? What did Brandon have to say about the game? About Omar? Anyone who went, please fill us in!!

thanks!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

What is the SAC. I know it is Student Athletic Center, but is it suppose to replace the Student Recreation Center. Who will use it. Or is it an arean that is suppose to replace Anderson Arean? And input would be appreciative.

Thanks

Nope. Its a building they're planning for the north end of the stadium (instead of those high-tech 1974 bleachers  ) to house workout rooms, recruiting rooms, I assume some offices, and possibly Falcon Club-type seating. No arena, and I can only imagine most of the fans will never see it from the inside. Sweet idea for bringing the Doyt into modern times, but the more I think about it, the more I wonder if they couldn't spend the money better in other areas...

The football building (SAC is the politially correct term for it) and more $$ for our assistant coaches are the biggest needs within the football program.

How you balance the needs of the football program against the needs of the University is an open question.

We got into this discussion on a previous thread. My personal opinion is that the aims of the univeristy and aims of athletics don't need to be mutually exclusive. I think that they benefit each other.

Face it, it today's age of sports and media, a solid football and/or basketball program will help put BG on the map. When that happens, more kids will be interested in BG for higher-ed. Then BG and continue to grow enrollment or keep the similar levels of enrollment and increase the academic standards of the university. Either way, I think investing in athletics, as long as we are not sacificing academics, is a great opportunity for BG. Will be very very interesting to see what happens over the next few years. I'm excited!! I can't wait for the day when BG has a real shot at playing on New Year's Day! GO FALCONS!

It's also worth noting that the SAC is being funded by via a sperate fundraising drive. You could argue that those $$ are being diverted from donations that would have otherwise gone to the general fund or other specific university areas, but you could also just shut the hell up....

Has anyone seen any drawings of this building, and if so could you possibly post them on here? When will bgsufalcons have a story on this anyone know?

Flip, I ACTUALLY laughed out loud on that one!

One other thing, I hope that when they build the SAC, they have a little moolah leftover to completely REPLACE those blackish-pink (or pinkish-black if you prefer) railings!!! How lame those look... :x

The SAC is a stated goal in our capital campaign. This campaign is in a "quiet phase" now as most everyone knows. Later in 2005 the large public phase will begin. The private dollars raised for this building will, in my opinion, simply be dollars designated for this stated goal. Many donors will still give or have given to other areas of the university or campaign goal areas.

The SAC will benefit every single BG athlete. Of course, given its location and the number of players on a football team, the football Falcons will have quite a new roost. And the building will indeed assist recruiting for all the sports but especially football. One big key is putting athletic training, weight training, coaches offices (football) and team meeting space in one building. This is vital. My comments on "design" are based on the basics/preliminaries of the building outlined by Paul Krebs at an event or two.

Go Falcons!
