Keon Newson to Rams

Newson is another defensive back that brings versatility to the Rams’ secondary. After the team drafted Ronald Bartell and signed Michael Stone and Michael Hawthorne, the need to have players who can play safety and corner has become more apparent. The young man from Bowling Green projects to safety more than cornerback in the NFL, but he can do either.

Newson’s best season came in 2003, when he posted 124 tackles as a safety. The biggest knock on Newson is his lack of speed, but he should at least push some of the other safeties for time in camp. He had 293 tackles and 10 interceptions in his career.

This is great for Keon and BGSU. Four players, thats amazing. Any news on Hawk I thought he was going to go to the Steelers but they took a WR from Tiffin :?

Again, more great news. Hopefully everyone will catch on with their teams. Now....what happens with Hawkins and Crossley?

Pretty honest assessment for a team Web site. He's in camp, so he'll have a chance to show if he has enough "game" speed to play. If he does, he'll have a real shot to make the team; he's got a playmaker's instincts.

I'm more disheartened than every about Hawkins. When there was a run on receivers late in the draft, my heart sank. I kept thinking, how can these guys from these no-name schools get drafted with a guy like Hawkins on the board? I figured he'd get signed quickly after the draft, a la Cole. Now we're sitting here two days out still waiting. Disappointing. Hawk has the skills and proved himself at a high level. He may not have been worth a draft pick, but he's certainly worth a look in training camp.

As for Crossley, I think he might end up empty-handed; if he wants to continue to play football, he might have to look at something other than the NFL.

Great to hear about Keon! The dude has earned a look from the NFL just like the others. Keon is flat out a playmaker. He causes problems for opposing teams. I hope all Falcons make their teams. I believe Khary Campbell is still with Washington and Ryan Wingrove is playing NFL Europe.

Crossley? Sad. I wish he kept his grades sufficient. Would love to have him on the team for '05.

Hawk has the size, strength and ability to play on the next level. Hopefully someone can see that!
