So is this team really legit this year? I mean I heard the thundering turds didn't exactly play their best and if Missouri fell asleep after the first 2 plays, are these wins just flukes or is Troy St. really just a good team this year?bgmike29 wrote:Troy St. beats Brad Smith and the boys 24-14. I'm completely shocked. I think Missouri's offense fell asleep after the first two drives. This is a huge win for the Troy St. program

Troy St. Stadium
I'd be the 1st to say I know little about Troy St., other than they're in Ala., have beaten Marshall twice in 2 yrs., have played a murderous "BCS" schedule for past 4 yrs. or so.
But, did anyone see their stadium? It appears to be in the 40,000+ range seating wise, based on my "visual" comparisons with the Doyt. And they've got all the bells and whistles, video board etc. Wonder how they paid for all that? Announcers at one point indicated they'd used the $$ from the big games to pay for most...would be interesting to hear the whole story. 8)

my guess is the fact that its called "Movie Gallery Stadium" has alot to do with how it was funded as well.Class of 61 wrote: But, did anyone see their stadium? I have no idea how they paid for their stadium, and I didn't see the game. However, how crowded were the stands? I'm willing to bet that they get a pretty good attendance within a year or two. The deep south (especially Alabama) sees football as an institution. Auburn and Alabama are ingrained in their psyche, but they are so rabid about football there is definitely room for another D1A team there. I bet they're selling that place out after a couple successful years.
I have a soft spot for Troy State, because I took them to prominence in NCAA 2004. After building BG up to a powerhouse so strong that the game was boring, I decided to bolt and try to bring Troy St. to power. I did
It was actually a fairly easy job once you started recruiting FL!
Ohio loves football, but its nothing like Alabama, IMO.

Troy's Attendance
Hambb,
Not sure what the crowd was, but it sure looked filled up...they have a 2nd deck on the stadium(like the Doyt was designed for), at least on the one side we could see on TV and it appeared to have somewhat of a "bowl" appearance on the ends also.
See you at tailgate tomorrow... I need a "Falcon Fix" after watching last weeks OK. game with the Freak.

Regarding last night's Tryo-MO game, it was the largest crowd in school history (26,574).
I will give Gary Pinkell credit though for scheduling away games at non-BCS schools. You would think he would stop doing it after losing so many of them. And Corso took him to task late in the game. MO is 2-20 when trailing at halftime under Pinkell. Hey Gary, you need to try something better at halftime than, "OK guys keep it up, things are bound to turn around."

Crowd...
Last night they said the crowd was 20 something thousand. I believe it was 24K or 26K, but it did not reach 30K. I remember this, because I was trying to compare the atmosphere to a good BG turnout. I also thought this was DeJaVue for Missouri. Here they were going into an environment similar to BG at night with the lights and they lost again. Talk about carma. I bet Missouri will eventually quit scheduling those types of game. It is a difficult type crowd to play in when every fan is intense and beating the crap out of those thunder sticks.
This is a preview of what we will see at NIU. We need to be at that game in full support. Our guys still say that is the toughest environment they've ever played in and it's worse than OSU or OU types of crowds.

I thought the TV Corso and Herb talked about that stadium only holding 28,000. No where near 40,000. It did look good on TV though. The field looked perfect.
I watched this game pretty closely, and IMO neither team looked good at all. Play calling by Mizzu was terrible. They could barely run the ball. Troy was running on pure emotion. I am happy for them. I think BG could take both of these teams without much of a problem. Mizzu was out of control. It almost looked like they abandoned their game plan that put 14 points up early. Poor coaching IMO. That team should have come out of half time and gone back to controlling the game and the football. There is no way they should have been #17.
