Heisman campaigns

Post by UK Peregrine »

Here's the pertinent section concerning Omar from an article on school sponsored Heisman campaigns. BG sounds like it will take a wait see approach before they start forking over the money for a Heisman campaign.
But Bowling Green must maximize the effect of its two early games on national TV for quarterback Omar Jacobs, who remains almost unknown nationally despite throwing for 4,002 yards, with 41 touchdowns and just four interceptions, last season.

"That's going to be the impetus as to whether or not a campaign will be viable for someone at a school like Bowling Green," Sports Information Director J.D. Campbell said of early games at Wisconsin and Boise State. "You've seen Chad Pennington, Byron Leftwich, Ben Roethlisberger and Alex Smith come from non-BCS schools and compete very well for the award, and we think Omar is that type of player."

I think that makes perfect sense. I think we all agree that how he (and the team) comes out of the gate will show alot of things. Those games are already on national TV, which equals free publicity for the University.

Considering the long shot chance for a non-BCS player to win it anyway, this is the way to go. Omar and the team can make huge statements on national TV.

Not only do those first two (well, three, minus the Ball) games give us the oportunity to publicize ourselves, it also gives both Omar and the team some extra motivation in them. They will know that those games ARE Omar's Heisman campaign, and I would be willing to bet that everyone will be throwing a little extra effort in just because of that. 8)
