Have we seen enough to know with a reasonable degree of certainty:
1-How good BG can be this year?
I believe the biggest questionmark going into the season was Omar and he's shown me enough to think that our QB play will be a real strength this season. A bit of a surprise to me is how good our kicking game--punts, kickoffs, field goals, and returns-- has been. I'm beginning to think that by season's end we could be a very good team, even better than last year.
2-Where we need to improve?
I think on offense the main issue is improving our consistency. There are groups of plays where we look like dynamite and then we let down. Also, I hope our offensive line play will improve as the season unfolds. Our depth there is better than it has been. The bigger question, I believe, is can our defense improve? Fortunately, for the most part we are not allowing big plays. We are, though, giving up quite a few yards. Sure hope Leininger can return for NIU. Also, I'm wondering if we have some young players that can help us out on defense as the season progresses.
Our schedule could really be a plus. The extra time off before NIU is a big help for healing up and getting more practice time for our young players.
Finally, I am becoming more and more impressed with how BG plays with poise. This really stood out in the Oklahoma game. Could it be that this will be a trademark of Coach Brandon's teams?
