He & Partridge made our WR future look VERY good. They were clearly a step faster than anyone on our defense. Then again, maybe we should start recruiting defensive players instead of just sending our lesser athletes over there...
Just a note on this. Corey was recruited as a DB and got a chance to show what he could do as a WR. If you remember last summer in Camp they talked about him playing both ways. Well, don't be surprized if he shows up on the defensive side of the ball every once in a while.

Thanks for the tip, dad!

In that case, looking at your signature, I can't wait for him to start catching [opposing QB's] passes, too!

Oh yeah, I remember. I REALLY hope they let Corey play both ways. I'm not lauding him simply because you're his father, but he looked GREAT in the spring game. He's a great athlete. He was not only fast, but quick. He looked to have the type of shifty movement/hips that you'd love to see in a DB.

It looked to me like he was one of, if not the, best athletes on the field in the spring game. When you've got a guy like that, if he can handle the workload you may as well play him both ways. That seems to be the rage in college football nowadays, and I'd love to see Corey be our version of it.

From what I first saw of him this spring I've got a feeling that Corey is going to be a pretty big name in BG football by the time he leaves here. You better let him know that he set his bar pretty high with that spring performance ;)

All praise aside, if Corey doesn't play defense he's another example of exactly what I was talking about. He was brought in to play defense, then when we saw his great athleticism we moved him to WR. Sure, I think he can make a huge impact on that side of the ball, but why don't we let impact making athletes stay on the defensive side? That's pretty important too. Winovich is about the only of our top athletes I can remember seeing play on defense as opposed to offense. I love seeing us be able to fly by most opponents, but I'd feel a lot better about our championship chances if we had a defense that we could count on for that big stop.

The "stars" of this year's class (outside of Alexander, maybe) are on the lines. No need to rush any of those guys into playing because we're deep on both sides of the ball (although the dline backups are inexperienced compared to the offensive line).

I have no reason to believe this other than a hunch, but I think Thomas James and Antonio Smith are going to push for time.

It amuses greatly that a ton of people have Jelani Jordan tabbed as a first team All MAC while the vast majority of people on this board think that he's the DB version of golferI......

BTW, Nick Lawrence unexpectedly entered a guilty plea to seven counts the other day. He's looking at maybe a year in the slam or a few years probabtion IIRC.

He entereded the quilty plea only if he gets into a special probabation program, and is currently sitting in the pokey until sentencing to get time served. If the judge allows him into the second chance program, once he has served time the charges will be cleared from his record. However, in classical legal manuevering, the guilty plea only counts if the judge puts him in the program, if not they will withdraw the plea and take his chance with a jury. Obviously either way, I think football will be out of the question.
