I want my next job to be "webmaster in charge of poll creation" for clevelandbrowns.com. Isn't this about the 12th time they've run this poll since the draft?

Remember, these are Browns fans voting in this poll. While they are dedicated, they are notoriously some of the dumbest fans in professional sports. You have to realize that the Cleveland media has really been enamored with Chuck Frye. He is constantly getting headlines, but roughly 90% of them are fluff pieces with the basic jist being: "Look at the cute hometown kid!" No one in Cleveland has any idea that he and just about all of the Browns' QB's are being outplayed by Harris because of this stupid little love affair.

I feel qualified in saying this having grown up a Browns fan in a family of Browns fans: most of them are happy if they can just get drunk in the parking lot.**

But overall, he outshined the other contenders - Doug Johnson and Josh Harris - for the backup job.

From all accounts Charlie was outstanding in the practice Saturday night. I haven't been to camp so I can't say for sure, but I haven't read anything to make me believe that Harris has clearly been better than Frye or Dilfer. I have read countless accounts that say he's been better than Johnson.

The media is enamored with Charlie because the guy has a HUGE upside for a 3rd round pick. He's also the local boy who grew up as a Browns fan. It makes good fluff print, as you state. To the knowledgeable Browns fan, and there are many, we still want to see him perform on the field. From all accounts he's made HUGE strides throughout the summer. He came in a deer in headlights, and he has started to improve greatly as camp has gone on. The kid is VERY smart, and is a VERY hard worker.

I know we all want J5 to succeed, but I don't see why we cannot be happy for Frye as well. He's also a great MAC story

I had heard that Frye got most of the accolades from Saturday night, but he also fumbled and threw an interception.

As for Josh, I just read the blog on the PD website and they stated again that Johnson simply looks lost out there. I am getting the feeling that the Browns will go with Josh and Frye as the backups and the Johnson is just goning to be relesed.

That would be ideal. They could learn behind Dilfer this year, and possibly compete for the starting job next season.

True, true, hammb. I just can't help but be annoyed that Doug Johnson actually gets more press than Harris in this deal. The guy is by all accounts terrible, but because he has played before and because Frye is so "cute," its almost like Josh isn't even in camp. I'm not really that convinced that Doug Johnson IS a hard worker. I've heard from multiple people that Johnson looks as though he doesn't want to be there during practice. I honestly think that Josh will beat him out. Johnson was brought in as a training camp arm...you don't want your top 3 guys taking ALL the reps, its too much for their arms.

I have no idea why the guy is getting more press than J5 though. J5 is also a local product, and perhaps not a Browns fan growing up, but still makes a good story. Johnson is a never was that is just plain terrible. Sure, he's been in the league for awhile, but so what? He's been bad for awhile.

Incoming rookies always get the most press over a 2nd year player who's also battling for a roster spot. It's just the way it is. When that rookie is also a local guy, well you get what you're getting from the Browns so far.

I caught some Browns "highlights" being fed over the satellites at work Saturday night. Unfortunately, they only showed three plays, one was a Willie Green run, another was a 30-40 yard (probably) Frye pass toward L. Moore that wobbled a bit and came up obviously short in the endzone, pretty much hitting the defender in the back.
