Omar looked his usual.

I hope we don't have to rely on our kicking game to much, Timchenko looked pretty bad.

I'm starting to like our D, they ran a lot of 3-4 tonight, I like the 4 LB's idea they are all very quick and the secondary looked pretty decent, with Perry, Dozier, Mayberry, and Jordan, and Hargrove on occasion.

p.s. A VERY good crowd on hand, I was very impressed, maybe 250 people there.

Timchenko looked bad before the game, but he did hit a 47 yarder in the game with a very tough crosswind...as well as making all his extra points.

He did have a 52 yarder blocked, but in the scrimmage they like to run the kick-block team in there on occasion.

Well hopefully the other teams don't try to block his kicks this year then. 50+ yarders are prime targets to get stuffed though, especially trying to keep it out of a crosswind.

methinks we will be a lot like Toledo of last year as far as going for it on a lot of 4th and mediums. Granted they had no punter but the end result is the same. If we're 4th and 5 from the opp. 25 I don't see us kicking it much this year. That might not be a bad thing though if Omar's accuracy stays stellar. We'll see if an assumed sub-par kicking game will cost us in the big games.


FWIW, Wisconsin and Boise both also have serious kicker issues. Hopefully that disadvantage will be a wash in those two games.

After a tough spring, Tyler Mehlhaff seems to have had a good summer at kicking camp and now appears to be a reliable kicker.

Barry Alvarez after yesterday's scrimmage:

“Taylor Mehlhaff is still kicking the ball very, very well. Got all of our kicking game scrimmaged and I thought the kickers did excellent.

Of course, the bullits haven't been flying yet.

This game could come down to kicking.

Yeah, most games it won't matter, and we'll convert our share of fourth downs. But I live in fear of the day when the whole game comes down to a long FG, because our program has not committed itself to placekicking. It really hasn't hurt us since that WMU in '01--and we won that game.
