As for Saturday though, I want to experience Madison around the Wisconsin fans, not be in a hotel with other falcons, if that makes sense. .
TG- you better look me up, man!
That's my thought. For Friday AND Saturday night. We might keep the Sheraton on the radar, but I really think we'll just hit State Street around 6 or 7pm and make a night of it.
And DD, when you show up in your 33 jersey, I'll be the guy running the other direction. Easy to spot!

I was a faculty member at Grand View in Des Moines for three years after leaving BG with my PhD, but left when my wife (also a BG alum) was offered a job here (where I got my BA) and now teach and advise.
I would highly recommend "hitting the streets" to find fun, not hang out at the hotel. As I said previously, I don't do official events. Too expensive, too many "stuffed shirts."

While I am sure you are ALL sad I won't be there, I got some Madison bar recc's from a VERY reliable source (ie, a heavy drinking cheesehead). Here is what he said:
The quinessential Madison bar is a place called "State Street Brats" -
it was written up by Sports Illustrated as one of the best places to
watch a game in the country. The other place they're going to want to
go is the Terrace at Memorial Union (conveniently within stumbling
distance of Brats), where they can drink beer on the lake and listen
to live music.
Some other good places:
- The Great Dane - Microbrewery with great beer. Older crowd.
- Bullfeathers - THE place to hit on 19-year-olds with a fake ID.
- Monday's - Their style of pouring drinks is straight booze with a
little bit of mixer for coloring.
And of course, Ian's Pizza for drunk-food. There's nothing like a
Mac-&-Cheese pizza when you're on the verge of falling down.
You really should check out Parthenon Gyros in the 300 block of State Street. I live in Chicago, which is home to some pretty good gyros. Few places can stack up to the Parthenon in Madison.

I'm not sure what everyone else is doing but I've heard that Regent Street Retreat and Big Ten Pub open at 8am. Both are on Regent Street and both are within 3-4 blocks of the stadium. I think that's where some of us will be Saturday morning.

Have fun in Madison.
I love gyros. Please tell me they use lamb and not beef!
The Stadium Bar (literally across the street from Camp Randall) is also open at 8am.
And Parthenon uses lamb. Ordering preferbaly done "gyronotomatofrymountaindew" (of, course alter to fit your preferences)--no breaks between the items. If you do, you sound like a yuppy. I wish they would send people to the back of the line, but this is Madison, not Philly.

UW student here. Don't overlook going to "union south" for part of your pre-game festivities. There is tons of beer, brats, burgers, etc. and the Wisconsin band plays there. They will even play your school song. It is more of a family atmosphere than the bars, so if you have kids with you, it is definitely a must. Union South is located at 227 N. Randall Avenue, across the street from the Camp Randall grounds, and about a block away from the actual stadium. Looking forward to hopefully meeting some BGSU faithful, and being drunk Friday night through Sunday morning! I hope you all have a good time as well, with the exception of 9/3 11:00am-approx 2:00 pm.
EDIT: BTW, don't listen to bgbrandon. Just come to Madison and make up your own minds about our atmosphere and kindness.
Anyone know where they plan on being Saturday morning. We are staying on the outskirts of town friday night but we plan on getting to the lots pretty early. Are most people tailgating or going to the bars? We should be there late friday afternoon as we are leaving at 6am tomorrow morning. Everyone drive safely and I hope to see many of you there.

I think we were going to bum around the bars, maybe the tailgate area looking for orange, no real plans. But we'll be in town by 3 or so Friday afternoon, probably rest, shower, and then hit the town mid-evening.

As for Friday, I got a letter from the hotel today that there's a bar & grill inside the Doubletree. There's a pretty solid chance that we're gonna spend the dinner hours Friday night there, at least until the half of our group coming from BG arrives.
