Be careful, those wisconsin fans are rowdy and obnoxious. I dont know if you read the "Herbie Awards" on ESPN.com (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/preview05 ... id=2143245) read best student section.
This is what wisconsin is known for, they are just a bundle of joy.
Also, try reading this if you can:

I know there are a lot of buckeye haters on this site but put yourself in their situation...Say you took youre young daughter to a game there and she was wearing a BG cheerleading outfit and the fans there called her the next BG whore and poured beer on her... Yea, I bet all of you would love that.
As a buckeye fan (yes I can be loyal to 2 schools), I can honestly say I have a ton more respect for Michigan than I do for a school like Wisconsin. I go out every week hoping that Wisconsin loses to any team that they may play.
Alright enough rambling... Just be careful when you all go to Madison this weekend, GO FALCONS, Kill the Badgers!

Getting yelled at is one thing. Getting beer poured on you and s**t thrown at you is another. I am going to have to figure out where to draw the line in there between blowing it off and kicking someones ass. I will be respectful, but if things get out of hand, that respect will disappear.

Let's wait 'til the folks who go report in
Whiny Buckeye fans aren't a good guage. You may have seen the CFU quotes I posted here after they visited last year.
Yes - the student section will use swear words.
For example, they have a tired old version of the Bud Lite ad (tastes great!! Less filling!!) that goes Eat S _ _ _ (word for poop)!! // F_ _ _ You!! Stupid to we older folk. (On the Badgermaniac board it's called the ES FU cheer and has been discussed ad nausium.)
Beer? Tough to sneak much beer in and no beer is sold there.
I suppose any opposition fan with a chip on his shoulder can find some local idiot to get into a fight with in Madison. But that's a universal type thing.

Post #342 Just got back from Wisconsin: Pics of Wisconsin game and UCFan Day Reply
-----------------------------------------------------
Hey guys,
I just got back from Wisconsin. What a crazy trip. Since we were not sure if the Hurricane was going to postpone our 12:17 Orlando Flight to Wisconsin/Chicago. No one from ATA could tell us what was going on or knew that OIA was closing.
We drove on Thursday from Orlando to Jax to Charlotte, NC to fly to Chicago on Friday @ noon. Of course the kicker- Our Flight never got to be postponed! O yeah!
The Wisconsin fans are awesome. The Wave was one of the coolest things I have seen at a game and I would love to be able to do it once at UCF. They went Slow Mo and they Sped it up and then they reverersed it. Cool stuff.
Jump Around was great. I recorded it on my digital camera. Great band. Everyone was having a great time. Loved the Sea of Red!
It was a great trip and I was glad to get away from Frances. Here are some pictures. I also have my 2004 UCFan Day pics.
Feel free to look at my Wedding pics (Knightro was in attendance). Chicago is an awesome city!

Post #1008 My Madison trip report- what a GREAT TIME!!! (long) Reply
------------------------------------------
Well finally have some high speed internet access here in downtown Chicago- so decided to give my UCF road trip report for Wisconsin. I was going to post pics on my site, but forgot to pack the stupid USB reader, so I'll do that later.
First off, note to all UCF fans- when we play Wisconsin in 2009 you NEED TO GO TO THIS GAME!!! Madison is a great town that seems to be the perfect size- big enough to keep busy, small enough to avoid the congestion. State St is a great area to go have a drink and some dinner- and just walk around. Weather was absolutely perfect for us- especially considering what we had going on back home.
Now on to gameday. Pregame atmosphere is very different than most colleges down south, but very cool still. Rather than having large grass parking lots people just park all over the city (kinda like Auburn) and go to these outdoor beer and brat bars. Inside the stadium though it just doesn't get any better than Wisc. I've been to UCF road trips at S. Carolina, Auburn, Ga Tech, UGA, UF, Clemson, Cuse, and Penn St but I have never been more impressed with a gametime atmosphere than I was at Wisc!!!
The student section is just awesome, I can only hope one day UCF students would be that great. Their wave slowdown, rowing, and JUMP AROUND were so much fun and actually made me forget the game for a minute which is hard for me to do at a UCF game as anyone could tell you that knows me. Not only did they do fun things like that, but they were seated at kickoff and for the most part stayed until the clock was 0:00. The Wisc band was something else, they played up and down the streets before the game, on the field pregame, and they had a 5th quarter show that lasted 20 minutes (and was a blast to watch) after the game which they do every game. In addition to all that during the game they went around to different sections of the stadium and played. You can't help but enjoy it and be a little jealous that we don't have that ourselves b/c I would love to see more of our band before, during, and after our games!
After the game we talked to the absolute NICEST fans I have encountered at any road trip. Soon as we walked into a tavern down the street from the stadium we were given beers from some Wisc STUDENTS! And then we had so many fans come up to us asking for more info about UCF, asking about how our homes will handle the hurricane, and then I even had a lady seriously offer to have us stay at her place b/c the hurricane extending our stay. I was just blown away by the kindness we received!
As for the game- all I want to say is I like what I saw. I watched a team give great effort, play smart without stupid penalties, and play with class. I felt Moffet did a great job considering what he was up against and now believe he will be our QB for a long time. I think the offensive line did much better the 2nd half than the first half- so I know they are learning. Only bad part of weekend is the loss of Peter Sands...man that hurt. Personally though, I am pumped and ready for the West Virginia game once I get back from Chicago! I'm hoping since UCF lost that the sports gods will give me a Cub win on Wednesday night and 40k+ for W VA!!!
PS- It was great meeting so many of you from this board this weekend, hope to see ya at Penn State!

Friendly, friendly folks!!! "Guides" taking us directly to our section in the stadium. People coming over to us in the beer garden asking if anyone had greeted us and welcomed us to town yet. Fans getting the bartender's attention and moving us to the front of the line. Fans asking us to join their tailgate and offering us beer and food.
The town is full of many, many, many interesting little shops and restaurants. I never guessed that this area would have anything interesting in the way of food, but there's every ethnic food type I can think of, and it's GOOD! And of course, you've gotta try the fried cheese curds (I no longer think Little Miss Muffet was a crackpot).
BTW, we stayed at the Sheraton, which was GREAT, GREAT, GREAT! Wasn't the closest hotel to the stadium, but the shuttle picked us up at the airport, took us to the Alumni Association pre-game party at the Union, did stadiums runs on game day, took us wherever we wanted to go in town, came and picked us up and brought us back from wherever we were in town (including other hotels). They also took me to church on Sunday morning and were waiting for me when I came out, and when we switched hotels on Sunday night (because of Priceline, NOT because we didn't love the Sheraton), they took us over and dropped us off at our new hotel. Their breakfast buffet was only $6.95 and quite extensive. [/img]

... you really missed out on a wonderful experience.
Those people flat out know how to put on a football game up there. Night before ... pre-game ... game ... post-game ... all impressive.
Even their alumni band put on a heckuva show!
I've been to some "big time" football stops (Oklahoma, Texas, etc.), but I have never seen a total football experience close to the one I saw this weekend.

Woody Durham said Madison is ranked as the #1 college town in America and that Chapel Hill is about #14.
I've been to many of the big-time atmospheres and it's a shame that we can't have something similar in Chapel Hill. Of course it would help to have a decent football program on par with the facilities.

I was there too. Absolutely the best football atmosphere I have ever experienced. The people are incredibly hospitable too.
Tarheeltaigater: Of course, I posted this on Saturday after the game but the ninnies shot back at me "of course they treated us well...home fans are always nice to us when we play on the road".
Naturally, I asked the ninny who he meant by us since he didn't make the trip. It was also clear that some people are so bitter that it is difficult to post anything positive...anything at all.
I intend to post something more comprehensive about the Madison trip on the Premium page. Perhaps that page will be ninny - free.

After going to the Wisconsion game and to the OSU-NCSU game a week before, one thing is for sure the Wisconsin Students are the most organized and loud group around with great traditions. Also, it didn't look like many Heel fans showed up. OSU overall had a louder crowd than the Wisconsin crowd.

Saturday's game was tough for me since I attended both schools (UNC-undergrad and UW-masters), but I ended up cheering, as usual, for the Heels.
When I was a student in Madison, the football team was woefully inept. The Badgers went two entire seasons without a win, IIRC, during my time there. Yet you'd have never known that was the case . . . huge crowds at the game, tremendous student attendance (even in howling blizzards) and just a whole lot of fun.
UW is a great state university, and Madison is a wonderful college town. Where else but in Madison could you be walking by the state Capitol and come across a small gathering of folks listening politely to the Prime Minister of Norway giving a speech . . . which I witnessed one brisk day in 1969 or 70.
But it is a cold, cold place, with the campus situated between two lakes. After reading Jon Krakuer's "Into Thin Air," I was reminded of trying to reconnoiter UW's campus in a blizzard trying to get to campus, but turning back when I could no longer feel my feet and hands . . .

Re: For those who didn't make it to Madison ....
What a breathtaking football atmosphere. The UW football atmosphere is not just a whole another level above UNC's.....I'd say it's more about four levels above. First and foremost, there is the giant student section producing synchronized cheers....similar to Dook bball, but more clever and more impressive due to the immense size of the student body (40000, I think). The UW band was actually good...not annoying and cliche. The alumni band (picture 15 guys in their 50s-60s walking around with tubas) shows the lifelong commitment. The music played on the sound system rocked and they actually played songs from the past decade. The new tradition of the whole stadium jumping up and down to House of Pain's Jump Around to start the 4th quarter is the coolest thing ever.
Then there's the simple things.....people show up on time (actually early...and this was an 11am game) and stay the whole game, everyone in the stadium is wearing the team colors (UNC's crowd is somewhat good about this, but there's way more fashion statement crap going on at UNC than team color flashing).
I still love my Heels and I do think Kenan is a nicer facility, but wow.....we gotta long way to go.

I was very impressed how the public address announcer gave scores of the other athletic events that UW was participating in over the week-end. They were promoting the minor sporting events as well as football. The fans around us kept telling us to stay for the 5th quarter. Very few fans in our section left when the game was over, they stayed for the 5th quater and watched the band. The student section was great. UNC has a long way to go to have this on a football week-end. It all boils down to support.

i arrived at 8:30 am and the streets around the stadium were nothing but red---best atmosphere i have experienced---they have no rules against open alcohol containers and i observed nothing but courteous and respectful behavior---not sure unc can get to this level even if we were to be a top ten football team----hope i am wrong ----the announcer was easy to understand and i was so close to the speakers that the usher offered my wife and i ear plugs---the tar heels will be back---count on it---go heels

I'm glad to hear everyone enjoyed their trip to Camp Randall. We think we have a pretty special place to watch a college football game. Yeah the students can get a little vulgar with their chants, but they truely are having a good time and are into the game.
I would love to see the Badger hoops team hook up with UNC sometime in the ACC-Big Ten challenge. When you talk college basketball UNC, along with IU, UCLA, and Kentucky immediately come to mind. Finally the Badgers have a team that we can go to war with.
I look forward to coming to Chapel Hill in 2005 when the Tarheels will host the Badgers. I hear Chapel Hill is a very good college town as well.

Re: For those who didn't make it to Madison ....
-----------------------------------------------------------
The Madison experience was absolutely unbelievable! Sure, I would like to have had a win, but for this post, I will just talk about the atmosphere.
Around 9:30am, we arrived at a place on campus near the stadium called Union South. This is the equivalent of "The Pit" on UNC's campus. Union South was mobbed. On one end they had ESPN Gameday piping through loudspeakers. On the other end they were piping the Wisconsin pre-game radio show. In between they were grilling brats, burgers & chicken and yes, they had beer for sale. Lots and lots of beer.
At 10am the Wisconsin band marched in and sat in a seated area. At Wisconsin, the band is a big, big deal and they absolutely adore this guy Mike, the band director. This guy Mike has been running the band since the 1970s and everywhere he goes people yell his name.
"Hey Mike!"
"Mike, how's the band doing today?"
"Mike, will you pose for a picture with my baby girl?"
"Mike, whose gonna win the game today?" (He said Wisconsin)
And they make sure to interview him on the pre-game show before the band starts playing. Want more proof about how much they love their band director? Check this out:
This is a friggin' bobblehead doll of Mike, the band director!!! When the band director gets this kind of attention, you can only imagine how much they love their football team.
OK, so the band starts playing their fight song and everyone goes nuts. Cheerleaders are dancing, the fans are singing, everyone is in a pretty jolly mood.
Then the band played Here Comes Carolina!. That was pretty neat. The band then finished up with two or three more numbers before playing The Budweiser Song where they all shout out "When You Say WIS-CON-SIN! -- YOU'VE SAID IT ALL!". And finally, the band concluded with another round of their Fight Song sending a few thousand red-clad Badger fans across the street charging into Camp Randall absolutely pumped for the game. This was one heck of a pep-rally!!!
(one side note: even though our band did not make the trip, our band director was on hand at Union South observing the UW band. I guess if you want an example of how to do things right, the UW band is the one to emulate. I was actually happy that our band director was there b/c it shows me he is interested in improving our band)
Now, let's talk about the student section which is absolutely massive. I'd estimate that it is at least twice the size of what we have in Kenan. And they were all in their seats by kickoff....and remember, this was an 11am local time start. And, as also mentioned above, they are kind of like a football version of the Cameron Crazies, only these guys are better (of course!) because of their size. They have lots or scripted cheers and love to dance around during the game.
During a break in the action in the first quarter, the PA announcer asked all fans "to rise and join in our time-honored tradition of singing "Varsity". I am pretty sure this is their alma-mater and by the end 80,000 folks less a few blue Tar Heel fans were slowly waving their hands back and forth....one gigantic moment of "kumbaya".
Back to the students....at the end of the third quarter, the song Jump Around gets blasted over the sound system....and naturally the students were jumping up and down while the band was doing the same in the end zone. Talk about a way to get the crown fired up heading into the fourth quarter....yowza!
And finally, the UW band performs on the field after all games in an act they call The 5th Quarter, and I'd say about 40,000 fans remained to watch this peformance.
Outside of the stadium after the game, fans were tailgating into the night and their were plenty of bars within a few blocks of the stadium. Again, grilled brats, burgers & chicken and lots and lots of beer. And all of this continued well into the night. I got the feeling that even if Wisonsin lost the mood would still be quite festive.
As someone walking around wearing blue in a sea of red, I was constantly approached by all sorts asking about our football team, our basketball team, Chapel Hill, how we're doing after Hurricane Isabel, etc. At most away games, wearing your school's color makes you a target for hostility. In Madison, I was a target for hospitality before, during and after the game. I hope as Tar Heel fans we can step up and return the hospitality to the Badger fans when they visit Kenan in September 2005.
Those people flat out know how to put on a football game up there. Night before ... pre-game ... game ... post-game ... all impressive.

Oops...I posted that last post under my Wolfpacker brother's name. Argh!
I still had a blast in Madison, though.

All marshmallows were banned around 1993. They were usually used in a throwing war between the student sections O & P. Some did put pennies (never batteries, please, that would be a pretty big marshmallow) in to be able to throw them further. The students did throw the marshmallows at the visiting team when they came out of the tunnel, but when a Mich. player got hit in the eye with one, the University banned the throwing of the marshmallows.
The UW fans are not as bad as those idiots at duh OSU make them out to be. Notice that Michigan, Mich St, Illinois, NW, Penn St, Ind, Purdue, Minn and Iowa fans aren't bitchin about this. IF MINNESOTA AND IOWA, OUR TWO MOST HATED RIVALS
AREN'T WHINING ABOUT THIS , I find it odd that OSU would be our only target. It's only OSU, which probably has the BIGGEST jerks for fans which are complaining. I know not all OSU fans are that bad, but many are ticked off about the fact that UW has whupped them pretty good lately.
Yes, I'm sure that there are a few bad apples, but EVERY university has them. Yes, there is some swearing in the student section (mostly sections O & P lobbing insults at each other), they're students, not angels. But to believe that even the DRUNKEST of UW fans would call a little 5-yr old a whore and pour beer on her... Only a OSU fan could come up with that!
The only thing Herbstreit mentioned in his article was the swearing, which does happen, but he doesn't say anything about the things that other OSU fans dream up in their little heads.
Bowling Green fans come up and have a blast! Be sure to go to the Taste of Madison after the game up by the capital. Lots of good food, and check out the Long Island Ice Teas at the Red Shed!
Oh, yeah, GO WISCONSIN!!!

Where have I seen that before, johnny....?

The Taste of Madison sounds like a great stop to fill up before continuing the victory celebration!

Busted!!!!
Busted, TG
I just get mad every time that I hear that crap! I was a student at UW from 1989-1993 and things have not changed much other than some of the stuff we used to do getting banned, like the marshmallows. I live in Madtown and I still love going to the games. Most of this talk is overblown by people who want to stir up trouble (ie OSU fans.)
Like I said, there may be a few bad apples, but every university has them and they normally are not representative of the group as a whole, whether at UW, Bowling Green, Michigan or wherever (except OSU
)
In my completely unbiased
opinion, UW is one of the most fun places to go to see a game and I have NEVER seen opposing fans treated like BGBrandon claims. There may be some jawjacking when opposing fans come into a campus bar or that lone opposing fan in the middle of the UW student section being called an !#$!#hole. But it's normally in good fun and I've NEVER seen it get physical. It's the same stuff that happened to my friends and I when we travelled to Indiana, Minnesota and Iowa. UW fans get a bad wrap because of a bunch of OSU fans with an axe to grind. Don't believe me, check the percentage of times that the topic comes up and see how often it is started by an OSU fan! Like I said... if Minnesota and Iowa fans, who we have an actual rivalry with aren't claiming this, it's really odd that we would single out OSU.
There is a lot going on with Labor Day weekend so it should be even more fun than normal!!!

Kind of strange that the most idiotic, obnoxious fans (OSU fans) are the only ones complaining about this issue, isn't it? Something tells me that it is their bad behaviour coupled with the fact that we have owned the shoe recently that is fueling their argument.
Hopefully everyone coming to Madison this weekend enjoys the atmosphere. I am sure if you are reasonably respectful, as you would expect of us, you will have a great time.

EVERYONE is screwed. It's just a matter of figuring your budget and going where you WANT to go in addition to where you NEED to go.tekekini wrote:falcon fans traveling to whisky are screwed...gas is 3.10 right now in my hometown.
That and piling 20 people in a hatchback to Madison would help, too.

Wow. $3.10 a gallon? Its not that bad up here yet. $2.99 right now.
Actually that works out to 3 beers per gallon if you use the Wando's wed. night special of $1.00 Miller High Life and High Life Lite bottles.
What a great motivator against drunk driving.... I can see the ads now, "Don't drive and get 3 beers per gallon"
