Overall, I had a fantastic time. The students could stand to grow up a bit, maybe get a little more original, but that's college kids for ya. I still never understood the appeal of leaning in at someone, yelling "YOUR SCHOOL U. SUCKS!!!" and why that deserves a round of high fives. :?

Friday night was actually a very good night. I know I met kdog and his dad, and have no doubt I met a few others of ya around the various bars (we hit no fewer than 7 that night), and even got a random phone call looking for the "BG party". Apparently the party was alot more mobile than we figured. And whoever invented the macaroni and cheese pizza at Ian's needs to be put in a hall of fame somewhere.

Saturday morning was great, though we ended up taking the LONG way from the hotel to the tailgate, but they really do have a beautiful campus up there. (Bascom Hill is a bitch to climb hungover, though!) For those Falcon fans in the lot by the parking garage at Regent and Park, I was with the group that had the entertainment center set up and the ornery satellite dish to go with it. I've been promised that we'll see that again, and hopefully in a little better working order! The walk to the game was good, the older fans were tremendous all weekend, with very few exceptions, offering beers, brats and tips for avoiding the cops who wanted beers dumped out on the walk to the stadium.

Camp Randall itself was horribly confusing to a newcomer, we waited in line underneath section AA for 10+ minutes (including making my Wisconsin TV debut, apparently) before asking if we were even where we needed to be. We weren't. And it wasn't until we were IN the stadium that we saw any signs for section entrances, and didn't see a gate number on the tickets. We were in the tunnel for the first score, unfortunately, but got a good chorus of AZZ out while we were waiting to walk up. (To the chick behind me: No, we weren't intimidated because of all the red and white in the seats. Why should we be?) We were in the last row of BG fans in section X, right in front of the people who started the whole "they need to sit down fiasco". I have a feeling Wisky will solve this problem by putting ALL visiting seats in the back rows. That or just find more cops that like to blow whistles to deal with it.

The actions of the game speak for themselves, both good and bad, but we had more friendly conversation and invites to parties from older alums on the walk back to the car. (Later, a well-lubricated "fan" made sure we knew that "BG got their asses kicked", and one of the older fans asked us snidely "what's that QB's name again?". I wanted to buy them each a clue, but I needed to save my money for more beer and mac-n-cheese pizza!)

Got to take in a bit more of Madison Saturday night and then most of today, walking around the Taste of Madison festival, I could have eaten there all day and been happy with the heart attack at the end. There were some amazing smells coming out of Capitol Square!

Final score aside, it was a great weekend, although about 45 minutes outside of town, I realized I left my pillow in the hotel room. Dammit! For a $7 Target special, that was a damn fine pillow!

We must have been the "lucky" ones who had the students follow us out screaming obscenities in our ears. I can handle "you suck" and so on, but man- they are pretty sickening up there. I lost it and asked one of them if he would say that to his mother and well, that was my mistake....

I am anxious to see how many Big ten/11 teams hang that many points on Wisconsin.

I will like to see how many yards Calhoun hangs on Big ten/11 teams.

I was disappointed by the lack of emotion/leadership on our bench. I mean- a catch here- a completed sneak there....different game outcome.
I mean- where were the senior leaders?

Ball State should be scared- very scared.

TG1996, it was good to meet you. Glad to hear you guys had a good time. We had fun, we just were not impressed compared to other places we have been. II see that you read what my dad and I endured on the Wisky board. We had the pleasure of spending the next 8 hours driving after that.

My son and I had a wonderful time at Wisconsin. Can't believe all the negative things said about Wisconsin on this board in past weeks. With the exception of one drunk kid, all the Wisconsin fans we met were very polite and very respectful of BG.

On Friday night we met a Wisconsin fan at the Regent St. Retreat who followed to several bars and then asked if he could go to the Falcon Club party at the Sheraton. We found nothing wrong with this and he followed us in...maybe some of you saw him there.

We were also impressed with the Wisconsin band. Their drum section marched into the Regent Retreat Saturday a.m. and gave a great drum concert. All in all, we had a really great weekend.

Dayon's...I was about 10 feet to your left at The Stadium Bar when you took that band picture and about 10 feet to your left and up 2 rows for the game! Did you hear the crazy old dude behind you occasionally screaming incoherent obscenities? That guy was a riot.

Overall, I was not impressed with the atmosphere of tailgating/pregame festivities. A solid C from a place that is supposedly known for partying. Ann Arbor and Columbus both dwarf Wisconsin in this department, even when playing a MAC opponent.

Having said that, Camp Randall is a very sweet venue. I love that stadium. It definitely compares to Ann Arbor and Columbus.

We went to the Big Ten Pub and The Great Dane Pub on Friday and opened up the Stadium Bar Saturday. We had a nice time, despite the worst defensive performance I have ever seen in person.

Glad to see most of you had a pretty good time this weekend. I told you most of it was blown up by OSU fans! :D It was a great game and I think you guys have a lot to look forward too this year. Jacobs is a freak. I was impressed with his accuracy and composure most of the game. I have a feeling he definitely will be the next in line of the good MAC QBS in the NFL. I was also impressed with your receivers. It seems they were overshadowed by Jacobs. They easily beat our corners all day.

Good luck the rest of the year and see you in 2006! :D

For the most part, the Badgers fans were OK. I think there was a effort to be more hospitable because of all the talk. In one group of Badgers, it started with you s*ck, then A$$hole, then the people bringing up the rear said "good luck, have a good game". There are good and bad everywhere. I must say though, I've never heard a whole student section say "you s*ck, get f*cked, but overall, we were treated fine. Glad to see the good fans overcome the bad.

Kudos to Badger fan Pat McMasters (Badger manager in the 80s). Flew in from AZ, and spent the whole night partying with us from State Street Brats to the Falcon Club party and past midnight. He was surrounded all night by the Falcon Faithful.

Dave and Dave Jr. - missed you after the game at Regents St. Retreat but it was great to see you pre-game. Try to make the Boise St game watch party at my house - chicken wings and beer and a Falcon victory!

SW-Mi- great to meet you, hope to see you in BG!

Wisconsin drivers- learn how to merge when entering a highway

Wisconsin fans- very nice, wanting to learn about our team before the game at Lucky's. After the game very cordial and wishing good luck, at least 99% of the people we encountered were nice.

Stadium- great stadium, like the modern aspects but the historical continuity

Loudspeakers- yikes, too much blaring Jock Jams music over the P.A. This is college football, we have marchings bands, keep the piped in music crap to the guys that play on sundays.

Jump Around- yawn, if it wasn't here when Ameche played it shouldn't be considered a tradition. The first tune of ay-ziggy-zoomba has more originality and tradition than anything Everlast can tell me to Pack Up and Pack In.

Most repeated question "How come your colors aren't green? You should be Bowling Orange" The city's name is Bowling GREEN, the school's colors are burnt orange and seal brown.

All in all it was a good time. Enjoyed the people, the cheese curds and even filled my Culver's fix (I miss that place since I moved back from Iowa)

We never got that comment, but I think if we play up there again, I'm going to bring maps of Ohio with BG circled to hand out before it's even asked.

Great time in Madison!! Game outcome not desireable, though, and likely discussed in another thread. Their students were as expected...some heckling after the game, but minor stuff. They were preoccupied with getting the party resumed.

As I wore my orange around the Taste of Madison afterwards, more than a handful of Wisc fans came up to me and stated how impressed they were with Omar and offense. Quite respectful and genuine.

All in all a great time.. great city.. We would go back.!

I had a wonderful time there. I really thought the fans were great -- very friendly, very respectful of our team.

And, of course, Madison is a wonderful place, a tremendously liveable city.

A friend put it to me this way on the way back: In Madison, home fans buy the visitors a beer (and this happened to us more than once Saturday).

In Columbus, home fans buy the visitors a beer -- and proceed to crack their head open with it and leave the broken glass on the ground for little kids to trip over.

BGSUVa: I think the Bowling Green took the home crowd out of the game early with their stellar play. Also, remember, it was an 11 a.m. start.

If there is something fundamental to the difference between atmospheres and northern and southern games, it might be the fact that games up north are traditionally played during the day. You'll notice Camp Randall didn't have lights; Bowling Green didn't get them until three years ago.

As far as the students -- the fact that many of them were showing up in the second quarter was noticeable. I really surprised by that. But, in the next day's Madison paper, the Wisconsin people seemed to think it was a actually an improvement over previous years.

I'm 1/2 way surprised to hear that people posting did not have a good time. Although I firmly believe that you'd feel differently if the final score was reversed.

Atmosphere -- you can attribute that to many things:
- 11 a.m. starts - we dont take it any easier on a friday night for early games, 11 a.m. is always different than any other.
- It was BG - lets face it, I was worried about this game but to probably 60% of the fans there, they wont go into the game thinking BG is any different than Temple. Come back on 9/24 for Michigan and 10/22 for Purdue and that place will be defeaning.
- The HEAT!!! It was sweltering inside that stadium. I personally saw two people faint in my section. Each time I walked up the 40 some rows to my seat I felt light headed. I have pretty bad sunburns on my face and arms and I dont burn easily. It was a LONG game and I really started noticing the fans become lethargic in the 3rd quarter.

Comparing UW atmosphere against tOSU and Michigan
- vs. OSU - I'm not going to argue, that atmosphere is incredible
- vs. Michigan -- Are you FREAKING KIDDING ME? Undoubtedly the most boring fans I've ever seen for big time football. The night before, tailgating and even MORE SO inside the Big House. And it was the same thing both times I was there -- and we won of those games so I dont feel like my opinion is jaded. Boring, boring, boring.
- That being said, the OSU game I went to was a 2:30 game and the Michigan games were early kickoffs so I'm sure that had a bit to do with it. However, I've never, ever, ever seen people talk on message boards about Michigan having a great atmosphere, especially compared to UW.

Students
- Yes, notorious for being late -- its a fact of life unfortunately I think that will never change.
- UW has 14,000 student season ticket holders, how many do you have? Out of 14K people, there are a lot that are around for the party and could care less about the actual outcome. If even 2,000 of the 14K have a non-chalant attitude about it, you'll notice their absence in the stands.
- And lets not forget, this was the first week of the new system. In the past students could get their tickets starting the Wednesday before the game. This year, in an effort to curb students camping out for good seats and missing class, all tickets were distributed starting at 9:30 a.m. and thru one gate only. It's hard to argue with the reasons for change but I would imagine that there were some kinks in the system.
- Swearing... yeah -- it's disgusting but it's what they do. It seemed better this year than in others past. Honestly, they really started to temper it last year... so you figure it will be 4 years to kind of "phase" it out of the system as Freshman come thru and then graduate. I dont want to correct people here but you didn't get most of the cheers right and virtually none are directed at opposing fans, instead at opposing students in different sections.
-- For instance, in the Swingtown song the students are referencing Section O - which is one of the 5 sections they sit in. Upperclassman and underclassman are in designated areas so when they reference "O" they are having fun with eachother. "O" seaters are bragging about their seats and other students are letting them know they suck. Again, lame but its tradition.
-- I think it's ironic that people mentioned not liking the wave. What stadium do you go to where there aren't at least attempts to start the wave during a game? At least the students mix it up with a slow, fast, cross-ways, etc. I'm not a wave fan in general but I at least get a kick out of watching the students get it to work there.

Honestly, if you didn't have a good time in Madison itself I would have to say you didn't know what to look for then. I would find it hard to imagine those looking for the bar scene didnt find something worthwhile so I wont address that but beyond that, didn't anybody find this stuff?

-- Sitting out on the Terrace on Lake Monona with live music and perfect weather?
-- Enjoying Taste of Madison while exploring the grounds around Wisconsin's beautiful Capitol?
-- Taking the unique shops up and down State St?
-- Exploring the fine dining around State St or the Capitol (Essen Haus, Angelic, Tutto Pasta, and dozens of other ethnic options)?
-- Henry Vilas Zoo - the nations largest accredited FREE zoo?

I dont know, I was just hoping for a little more explanation as to why it appears that 60-70% of you here didn't have a good time.

Can we safely say that its b/c you had a lot of hype going into the game and it was a disappointment? And then you had from 3 p.m. afterwards to kind of sulk about it in enemy territory, making it hard to have a great time? And on top of that, you had a, what, 7 hour drive home? IF these are the reasons I can understand but I honestly dont understand how someone could come up to Madison and think it is just ho-hum.
