I'm not going to rule it out yet.

Obviously, the award tends to come down to the "best quarterback on a Top 10 team." But Omar can not be blamed for what happened Saturday. He had the best passing numbers in the country last week, and it was on national television for all to see.

(This is, incidentally, a big contrast with Roethlisberger's opener at Iowa. Big Ben didn't play well).

I actually Omar's play improved his shot at a Heisman, if only slightly. The loss doesn't help, but we need to remember Omar was a bit long shot going into that game. I don't think he lost ground. In fact, he may have gained some ground -- just not as nearly as much as he would have gotten with a win.

The media will occasionally give serious consideration to an absolute freak on a non-BCS team. Remember the Steve McNair Heisman hype?

If he puts on another clinic at Boise, he may be looking at an invitation to New York.

Great points, Schad, as usual.

While I'm thinking about it, let me add another reason why this loss really depresses me:

This is quite possibly the best Falon offense in history, and probably will be the best Falcon offense for a long time to come. We are at the peak of offensive power.

This seriously could have been the season mid-major teams have been dreaming of having for years. Unfortunately, our horrible play on the other side of the ball has already squandered that gift, and could easily do even more harm than it already has.
