Obviously, the award tends to come down to the "best quarterback on a Top 10 team." But Omar can not be blamed for what happened Saturday. He had the best passing numbers in the country last week, and it was on national television for all to see.
(This is, incidentally, a big contrast with Roethlisberger's opener at Iowa. Big Ben didn't play well).
I actually Omar's play improved his shot at a Heisman, if only slightly. The loss doesn't help, but we need to remember Omar was a bit long shot going into that game. I don't think he lost ground. In fact, he may have gained some ground -- just not as nearly as much as he would have gotten with a win.
The media will occasionally give serious consideration to an absolute freak on a non-BCS team. Remember the Steve McNair Heisman hype?
If he puts on another clinic at Boise, he may be looking at an invitation to New York.
