Do we know that this is a lock for 2006?

I was in Warren over the weekend and the paper there said that OSU was pursuing a game with Youngstown State in 2006.

I live in Columbus and it was announced on AM 1460. I think they said the game would be Oct 7, 2006. The radio guy (I don't recall the name), said he couldn't get too excited about the Bucks playing Bowling Green, but it was better than playing Youngstown State. Some of these OSU fans are so arrogant. He was mocking the results of this past weekend when the Big Ten went 7-0 against the MAC. He said it made him question this agreement between the two conferences involving a 12th game each year.

I was disappointed by the results as well. I had hoped for at least 2 wins and a few more "good" showings. All but one of the games was played at Big Ten stadiums which is a big advantage to the home team. Besides, BG, Northern Illinois, and Central Michigan each could possibly have won their games except for a couple of plays. The funny things is that many of these radio and television sports people have worked at stations all over the country and I am sure when they were in, say, Amarillo, they were big Texas Tech fans or whatever the closest team was. Most of them don't understand the loyalty a real fan has for one team. win or lose.

It was a horrible weekend for the MAC. Central came close to Indiana, and the other games were really no contest. BG had a good opportunity, but they were physically dominated. Wisconsin will be a .500 team and Indiana will lose all of their conference games. So all and all, this weekend was a disaster for our conference. I love the MAC, and it has come a long way but they cannot compete on a week to week basis with 80,000 seat stadiums and monster BCS programs.

I read a great post on the board earlier about BG pursuing JC defensive lineman. This is a good idea because we are not getting big enough guys coming out of college. A 280-300 high school defensive lineman with any talent is not coming to a MAC school. The MAC puts skill players and offensive lineman into the Pros. We need to get D-line with size anywhere we can.

I think your off base when it comes to recruiting DE and DT in all programs. Just take a look at OSU's incoming Freshman class at DT and DE, the largest player is 265 lbs. These gargantuan DL guys (280-300) do not grow on trees, even though they seem to grow like trees after they get into certain programs. Perhaps the Big11 is simply better at growing them up after they get into the program than the MAC, but its not because they get tons of 280-300 pound guys straight out of high school either for their DLs. In fact, those few guys that are that big out of high school are usually recruited as OL in all conferences.

Our team is full of speed with a lack of size. That's not the players, that's the coaches.

you bring up an interesting point UK. Perhaps the blame should fall a little less on the coaching and recruiting staff, and a little more on the strength and conditioning staff. I'd have to think that some of the kids we're playing on the DL could've put some more weight on in the offseason. Like you said, other programs do this all the time. They recruit a 260 lb DT, redshirt him, and by the time he sees the field he's 295.

Same deal with linebackers. They're supposed to get bigger, faster, and stronger once they're in the program a couple years. I've seen this happen at other programs and I think it's the norm. i know our program is capable because i saw the difference between 2003 PJ and 2004 PJ. He was definitely faster, quicker, and stronger from one season to the next. I noticed it from the stands on his first carry. Why don't we see this improvement in our current crop of front seven players. Did we just happen to get unlucky and recruit a bunch of kids with no potential? Or is there a change that needs made to the offseason workout plan. The staff needs to answer these questions before we can move forward as a program.
