Flag football season about to open!

Post by 1987alum »

Yes, there will be an orange-clad entry in the Lower Makefield Football Association's upper flag division this year. The boys have one more practice before opening the season on Saturday.

This will be Noah's first year in the upper division and we could be off to a rough start. Two of our older boys will be out with injuries (broken arm, stitches to the knee) for a few weeks, leaving us with the younguns to lead the way. I was lucky enough to get a few of the other boys from last year's team, which is nice. Even though they are all on the younger half of the team, they'll be fun to have on the team.

Proud papa moment of the practice sessions so far:

We're running a 2-on-1 "tackling" drill. Noah is the runner and, in typical fashion, he barrels straight ahead (he's definitely a North/South runner). One boy grabs on to the back of his shirt with both hands and his behind hits the ground. Noah drags him the last five yards to the cones.

I asked the other players what Noah did right. Jacob blurts out "He didn't stop running, he just drug him, coach, he just drug him to the end."

When we were driving home, I asked Noah what he was thinking.

"I didn't know I was dragging him, Dad. I figured he was just holding onto my shirt and running behind me." I laughed so hard I almost drove the Mustang into the river.

Good story '87. Here is one I heard from my son about last nights football practice:
"I was playing fullback and just ran over like three guys before they tackled me. When I finally went down, I ended up on top of Bradley and Bradley was on his back. (Bradley is one of Derek's friends and was playing LB). The coach yells 'Great play! Way to go!' and Bradley says 'thank you' from his back."
