NIU's Game Notes list Josh Haldi as now questionable vs. BG

Post by BGSU33 »

They don't list him on the two deep, but Josh Haldi's status is talked about in the NIU game notes (under Haldi M*A*S*H Update) and it has his status as being improved from "out" to "questionable. I think the only "questionable" issue is, does he start or come in for the second series? I fully expect to see him play.

Another note, according to a NIU fan at the Iowa State game from another board, Josh Haldi was seen throwing a football on the sidelines during the NIU vs. ISU game.

I suspect we'll have our hands full with whomever they send against us.

My hope is that the team has not allowed the recent death of the walk-on to distract them. I hope the coaching staff has been able to make good use of the extra week.

I still wish the game were a few more weeks ahead, but what can you do.

I am not too familiar with NIU's depth chart. Could someone possibly comment on how different our gameplan would have to be if Haldi is playing?

According to Brandon tonight, the game plan is no different. NIU isn't really running a different offense now then they would be with Haldi.

I'm like you Nathan, I kind of wish this game were a few weeks away yet. But on the other hand, it can't get here soon enough. If we can win this game, we get one of the big hurdles out of the way early instead of it lingering down the road later in the season like it was in 2002. If we lose, we'll really have our work cut out for us and we'll have to start relying on help from other teams right off the bat. We do not want to be in the later situation.

Whether NIU plays Haldi or Horvath, we're going to have our hands full with the Huskies. But I would much rather face Horvath. Horvath is still learning and still seems to make mistakes aside from everything he does well. He seems to be a 50-50 guy, for every one play he does well, he seems to come back with a not-so-good play. Like at ISU last week, he threw for just under 300 yards and 4 TDs, but also threw 4 INTs, two of which were returned for TDs the other way.

Haldi, on the other hand, is a seasoned veteran. Yeah, we ruffed him up last season, but he also was the QB that beat us in 2002 and had an outstanding year last season. He's pretty cool, calm and collective back there. If you can't get pressure on him, he'll pick a team a part. I hope for hiss sake, being a senior and a good MAC QB, he can come back this season soon, just not against BG. Next week, he can have at it.

Haldi's "availibility"

Post by Class of 61 »

33,
For what it's worth, an article in today's Cleveland Plain Dealer, quotes Novak as saying, " If Haldi's ready to go, it's a 'no-brainer'". Also had quite an UNCOMPLIMENTARY article on the MAC, probably deservedly so after what's transpired the 1st 3 weeks or so.
Also, heard a late nite radio talk guy (when I couldn't sleep) discussing the same things re: the MAC this year...though he did goof and said UT was "idle" last week...don't know if he meant BG, but he said UT. :?

He has a leg injury so that does not tell you much. Actually I hope he plays and he is not 100%. That will work to advantage. IMO, I would prepare Horvath all week and start him...if he does not make any mistakes NIU will probably win. A less than 100% Haldi if limited in mobility will only help the Falcons D.
