Anybody else hear this?

Post by bc ziggy 58 »

Just as Omar was bringing our offense up to the line for our first series, I "think" I heard the PA guy say "At quarterback for BG, Heisman Trophy candidate, Omar Jacobs." (at my age, ears aren't what they used to be :( ).If so, was this a sincere compliment or was it meant to try and psyche us out? I think the latter.

Are you kiddin' me?? Why the heck would the home PA announcer do that unless he is trying to pysch out Omar? I guess if this performance is at Omar's worst , I'll take it , but hope this is only "bad" performance from Omar. :?

In my opinion the PA guy was trying to psych Omar out. I'm certain every team will do something to gain some leverage.

Yes, that Heisman reference was very strange. Much more calculated was the decision to not post on the scoreboard or announce on the PA, Miami's defeat by CMU earlier in the day. It was announced very, very late in the game on the PA. And ignored on all score announcements until then.

Obviously, our coaches and players knew about this upset which was great news for BG. And many fans did too of course. But I believe the PA/box folks did not want to give the BG fans any more reason to cheer or get loud than absolutely necessary.

Hey, if you are giving Kent's score versus SE Missouri, how about giving us ALL the MAC scores?

Silly.

Go Falcons!

they were posting the score as CMU 35- MU 37, but then in like the 3rd Q the PA guy said "and Miami wins.. no excuse me, CMU beats MU 38-37" and every single time after that the scoreboard still showed it CMU 35- MU37, so i wasnt sure what to believe until i got home!

It sounds more like they were trying to feel "Big Time" through association.

Idaho does that with us whenever they can. They once had 12 straight wins over BSU. Idaho was one of the original members of the PAC10. They have a lot longer history than BSU and it kills them that BSU gets some respect. Even though they now cling to our coat tails.

So, whether it was intended as one or not, It is a compliment of the highest order. Kinda like the over used O-V-E-R--R-A-T-E-D chant.

I expect that Omar will get the same kind of treatment in Boise. (respect, but a little razzing from the crowd if he makes any mistakes)

Not to compare Omar with Timmy Chang of Hawaii (there is no comparison)

Chang was in the media a lot last year because he was about to set the NCAA record for most passing yards. (I think he was a five year starter on a team that plays 12 games every year and passes 90% of the time). He only needed about 200 passing yards in Boise to do it. ESPN built it up before the game etc.

He got the Razz Bigtime! He got rattled. Threw 4-5 INTs and didn't get the passing record (that day anyway).

The funny part is: No one had noticed that he was also close to the NCAA record for career INTs.

On ESPN (amidst the hype). He ended up breaking the wrong record. The announcer at Bronco stadium in the big announcer voice calls out over the PA:

Timmy Chang has just set a new NCAA record ...pause......... For most career INTs.

BSU goes on to a 69-3 route on his big day on ESPN.

I'm sure we will treat Omar with more respect than that.

If you don't find it funny maybe you had to be there!

Seriously, I am both nervous and excited to see Omar Jacobs in action. I think everyone in Boise feels the same way.

I met a guy from northern Idaho a few months ago. Asked if he was a Vandals fan. He said he didn't care for the "community college" in Boise, that's for sure. :)

That's what I saw, too. And I double-checked back at the hotel. Miami still holds their fate in their own hands.

But they have to go to DeKalb and Athens. Those will be a tough ones for them to win.

YOU can go Toledo for that one, but I'll be damned if I'm heading into that hole this year!

I thought that was pretty cool...and Omar delivered the goods again. 27-43-1, 428 yards, 5 TD's. He had some bad plays but man oh man...the kid has almost 900 yards in his first two games, 10 TD passes and 2 picks...both games on the road.
You're looking at 4500+ yards, 50 some TD passes and 10 or 11 picks. Sounds like a Heisman Candidate to me!
