Verbals for 2005

Post by Warthog »

In the Blade's story today about Leady switching to baseball, they list four other kids that have made verbals to BG to play football next season:

1. Rhett Magner, QB, Palmer, AK 8) 6'0", 170 lbs. http://scout.theinsiders.com/a.z?s=337& ... id=1478358
2. Shane Steffy, OL, Oakmont, PA 6'3", 290 lbs. http://scout.theinsiders.com/a.z?s=337& ... id=1254755
3. Guy Williamson, OL, Mahomet, IL 6'5", 312 lbs. http://scout.theinsiders.com/a.z?s=337& ... id=1192235
4. Luke Alexander, WR, Springfield, OH (alexander played with Mitch Crossley and Brandon curtis at Springfield)

Anyone know how good he really is because we do have an abundance of QB. Maybe move him to WR or DB depending on his skills.

Magner, Magner...where have I heard that name before? Hopefully he's as good as the other Magner I'm thinking of.

I'm certain he won't be playing QB and will be switched to WR. Just like his brother.

Magner's Colony team does not throw a lot. I tend to think they are running a Nebraska option-type offense. Typically Magner is throwing six, seven passes per game.

I also picture him moving to WR or something.

Colony, incidentally, thrashed crosstown rival Palmer 42-14. They are 6-0, and No. 2 in the state behind Anchorage West.

No DT's on BGSUInsiders list??

Post by Falconboy »

This is very odd. :? We need to go after DT's this next recruiting year like we all need groceries at the store ever week. Unless there's other recruits not even listed on this Insider thing. I saw way too many qb's on this list. Why on earth do we have 4 qb prospects for next near unless the're pure athletes that play other positions really well?

I know it really doesn't matter at this early point in time, but for what it's worth, insiders projects him as a DB.

I don't imagine he'll be a QB either. If he is anything like big brother, it would be nice to see him play WR.

Speaking of big brother, I saw him at the store last night. I had heard reports of him occassionally wearing a boot. There was no sign of it last night and he seemed to be walking fine, although he was walking very slowly when I passed him.

Haha...that was the exact same thing that I checked when I first went there!

Fact is that many of the kids we recruit don't even get entered into the Insider's database. It is only the more high profile (by our standards) that make it onto that site. I'm sure that we are not completely ignoring the DL positions, which is what it looks like on the insiders.

When I first checked there I was enthused to see so many *** guys on there. Unfortunately nearly all of them have verballed to another school already. Leady is the lone *** verbal to BG, and he is not going to play football. I think there are only one or two *** guys with us listed that have not verballed elsewhere yet, and they seem like locks to go elsewhere as well :(

Its early to worry about recruiting, I guess, but it would be nice to get a *** or **** guy to come to BG at a position other than QB! Not that I don't believe we're getting a good group of kids, its just that it looks as though we've got a long way to go to keep up the string of successive "best recruiting class in school history".

According to Coach Brandon, he (Rhett) is better looking and according to Cole he has brown hair. Some young girl asked about that at the Women's event.

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."
