Gimmickry may work at Bowling Green

I sent Mr. Maisel an e-mail. He replied. both follow:

"Dear Mr. Maisel,

In your recent column entitled, "Florida wins, but famed offense hardly
dominating," you wrote, "gimmickry may work at Bowling Green, and it
may work at Utah, wherever either one of those places is..."

I wondered if the statement was provocative or ignorant. I decided it
must be ignorant, because it was not interesting enough to be
provocative.

Bowling Green State University is a 20,000 student university located
in Bowling Green, which is in northwest Ohio."

His reply:

"Thanks, professor. Nice retort. I had it coming."

Now I feel bad...

He was just being cute. Ivan has been complimentary of our program before.

And, as we know, there are a whole lot of people who don't know where Bowling Green is. I was asked about it in Madison, and I'm sure some of you were as well.

It was a cheap shot at our expense, but not a big deal in my opinion.
