Western MICHIGAN? I'm assuming they have the top teams at home or something, cause while I gave WMU alot of credit even in some of their down years, I don't think this is their year to make noise. So. Illinois might be one of the top I-AA teams year in and year out, but they're still I-AA and still almost knocked off the Broncos.1987alum wrote:Western has a chance to make some noise, too.
Miami evens MAC record with win over Kent State

Yeah, but if Terna is out for a while like it looks like he might be right now, NIU will more than likely light you guys up, in my opinion. Believe me, I want to see our game together be a deciding game for the East (because I think it is a game that BG needs to prove itself), but I don't see that happening this year. Betts simply isn't talented enough to keep up with a high-scoring offenes - whether that offense is running or throwing.MiamiBando wrote:The Kent win was a good one for Miami. I dunno, but that CMU loss might have lit a fire under their pants. I hope that's true at least, and Miami wins out, so it still comes down to the BG-MU game.

It's really hard to judge where teams are based on so much non conference action. UT has looked good, but they haven't played anybody. Next week's game with Fresno will be a good marker Toledo. They've had as much trouble handling decent OOC teams as we have beating good MAC teams on the road.
NIU is a puzzler...the pieces seem to be there, but they always find a way to F things up, usually against Toledo.
I think this season will be decided by our defense. No one is going to stop our offense. If the defense can just keep the opposition off the board in one qtr a week, we might win out.

Typically, a top I-AA team can beat our dregs. So Western Michigan's win is not to be sniffed at. And they also played Virginia tough. Only bad loss was at Toledo, and Toledo is good.TG1996 wrote:Western MICHIGAN? Let's talk about noise. I'd argue Central Michigan has already made some noise this season by beating Miami.
Western Michigan can make that kind of noise. Not saying they will.
We host 'em Oct. 22, and we shouldn't look past them. They seem to be improving.
