Ok, I hope Josh gets a shot up there and does well. BUT consider this...

This week the Browns signed a QB (Derek Anderson) that was released by Baltimore. The Browns promptly released veteran Doug Johnson. The reason we all hoped the Browns kept Johnson over Harris was because they wanted a veteran over a young guy. Obviously not the case now as Anderson is a rookie who was drafted in the sixth round last April.

To make matters worse, Anderson was released by the Ravens. The Ravens are plain awful at QB. Boller is injured in addition to sucking. Anderson was listed as the Ravens third string QB, behind Boller and Wright. Boller gets hurt and they release Anderson. What does that tell you about what they think of Anderson? They signed Kordell Stewart off the street to be the backup QB. So now they have only two healthy QBs, one that has been back with the team for a week.

Putting all these pieces together makes it look to me like the Browns (and maybe other NFL teams as well) think that Josh is just not an NFL QB.

From the way Josh played in preseason (and from accounts I read training camp as well) there is no way they could think he was an NFL QB. He can go north and play, if he improves he'll get another shot eventually. This year he just looked way too uncomfortable for a 2nd year QB.

When Frye was named as the #1 backup going into the season, you knew that Doug Johnson wasn't going to stick around for that long. Why keep an old guy as your #3? May as well bring someone in with some potential. It was not a good sign for Josh at all that they made Johnson the #3 and cut him...clearly they didn't think he deserved a roster spot right now.

Josh is tough, he'll improve and bounce back, I hope.

I was at the GMAC bowl last year, and I have watched the tape DOZENS of times (best BG game EVER.) Danny WIMP-rine was awful. I'm not kidding - his performance was embarassing. He had no pocked presence, he couldn't take a hit, and he threw a really ugly ball. Based on how the ESPN announcers talked about him, it wasn't necessarily an off-night. Memphis made it to the GMAC because of their unstopable running game (Williams); not because of their "reliable" QB.

So, based on what I've seen, if Harris can learn the system quickly, he could get the starting job sooner than we think.

Our friends from Memphis wouldn't be quite so rough on Wimprine, but they wouldn't argue he was a great QB, either. As hammb said, Harris has a chance to play and improve in Canada. Whether that translates into another shot in the NFL remains to be seen.

This move to Canada could pay huge dividends down the road for both bg and Canada. If Josh and his wife move there full time and have children that are born in Canada won't they get Canadian citizenship? With Josh being a proffsional athlete nad his wife being a collegiate athlete those kids could be incredible. Josh's dad played for the Bengals even. And they would have Canadian citizenship. We could see them in the Olympics down the road.

We could see his first child compete against his second in a Harris v Harris story. Also if they are raised in Canada and go to school there recruiting may not be too heavy for them. We might be able to get them into brown and orange pretty easily.

there's been a little cranky talk about harris on the CFL board. I "corrected" some of it -- be polite to them because even though some of the comments are off base, these are good, football loving guys.

Now Harris finds himself assuming Wimprine's role of a week ago, one injury away from taking control of the offense without the benefit of 12 weeks of taking snaps in practice. "The pressure's on and I'm just trying to prepare myself the best I can so I can go in and do my job if I have to," said Harris, 23, a Bowling Green product.

"That's why when I go home, I'm still looking at my playbook, still studying. "This is a fairly simple offense to pick up but you still have to execute. You can know every play and not execute and end up looking bad anyway. That's the key."

Harris joined the team in Hamilton just a dozen days ago, an emergency acquisition after Burris's injury in the Labour Day rematch. Suddenly Harris is in position to play a role in the 7-6 Stampeders' playoff push as he took the backup reps in yesterday's workout, hoping for the best and preparing for the worst.

Hopefully some angry Calgarian won't get on Harris for saying their offense is simple.

He is spot-on about timing though -- in no version of football is it more important or more difficult (in my opinion) than in the Canadian game.

Well...the Browns move is probably because Dilfer the dud will begin collection Social Security next week and drinking his meals....he is ahas been and wont last another couple of games...the Browns are seaching for a reasonalble llike player to back FRY....josh as long as he has not been screwed up by qb coaches needs to be in the right enviornment...like with Vick another free form QB....but alais Canada will be far beeter for him than being kicked around the NFL....hope he can make it back to a team with that is a good fit for his style of play.
