Does anyone else get the feeling that this may be the year that the final MAC standings look almost as cluttered as the basketball standings usually do?
We've seen over the past few years that 4 schools have seperated themselves from the rest of the pack -- MU, BG, TU, and NIU. This year, there seems to be some major questions surrounding all of those schools along with some bad losses.
NIU and Miami already have a conference loss. Toledo and us each got blown out at a WAC school. We haven't looked good overall in our other 2 games and Toledo hasn't had any other real games.
Meanwhile some of the lower-tier schools look improved this year. Akron and CMU already have big MAC wins. Ball State gave us quite a run and always plays Toledo tough. Ohio looks to be on the way up as a program.
I'm starting to get the feeling that there could be a lot of 3-5 to 5-3 records in the MAC this year. 6-2, unlike past years, could very well win the division this year on both sides. I'd love for us to run the table and be "that team" from the MAC, but from what we've seen so far, I'm not sure any team in this league has that ability at this point.
A lot could change between now and Nov 22. Let's hope we have something to play for that day. I think that game will decide the division champ on both sides.
