Quick analogy...

Post by Falconfreak90 »

In 2004, Buffalo led eventual MAC East Champ Miami, 7-6 at the half. Miami pulled away and won 25-7.

2005...BG led Buffalo 14-7 at the half and pulled away for a 27-7 win.

Both games at Buffalo. The road is a tough place to win no matter who the opponent. If there is one thing I've learned this year, its accepting the wins no matter how great or ugly. A win is a win.

I hate our conference because it seems the crappy teams decide to step up once in awhile...and it's usually when they play the really good teams. It's an almost unexpected contest between the two with neither one playing like normal.

Buffalo and Ball St. are two teams I believe we should have rolled over. Maybe everyone is just preparing themselves to do a common goal, beat BG.

You got it, brother. Just win, baby! If at the beginning of the season, I told you this is what the MAC East standings would look like come Oct. 17, what would you have said?

This holds true in every sport. Teams rise and play their best when they are playing against the best. A team with a losing record or disappointments like to use games like this to make their season. What better way to make your season if you can't win the MAC, than to say you were the team that kept BG from going undefeated?

Last, it was darn windy at the game and these types of conditions can make for an ugly passing game. I say kudos to the coaching staff for saying BG will run the ball and not mess around and lose the game by being bone headed and trying to keep passing the deep ball. Also, we need to develop the running game and against Buffalo was a good place to work on it. We will not beat the top teams in the MAC without a running and a passing game. We will need balance.

As much as a blowout at Buffalo would have made us all feel better, it is a good thing that this team learns how to grind out a win. If I recall, I think it was 2003 that we were suppposed to obliterate CMU at home and ended winning 23-3. It exposed some weaknesses in the redzone and taking care of the ball. We went on to win the MAC West and the Motor City Bowl, both of which were close games at the half that required us to grind it out in all phases of the game, especially defensively.

I think the silver linings to the Ball State, Ohio, and Buffalo "clouds" (all of which were wins, let's not forget) is that the team and coaches realize that we need to get better each week in all phases of the game, offense included, and that winning doesn't come automatically. The difference between 8-3/9-2 versus 6-5/5-6 isn't that much. I hope we never return to mediocrity, but that's exactly where we're going to be if we don't get better each week.

Go Falcons! Beat WMU! Will be there cheering for the good guys!

First would've been shocked that Miami had lost 2 conference games already.

As for the BG portion I would've been disappointed in 2 losses, but they were against tough non conference foes on the road (I would've assumed the one OOC win was against Temple). I wouldn't have been overly joyed, however, because I would've told you that we should beat BSU, OU, and UB by a combined total of about 100 points. We haven't quite lived up to that goal, but I wouldn't complain about those standings either.

We can, in fact, make the UT game meaningless for conference standings by just winning our East division games. That's a good position to be in.

And that's my point. We're three games into our MAC schedule and we're two games up against the next two teams in the East. Nothing is a lock, but it's a great position to be in.

With how well Omar and the offense played, it's too bad you didn't win that Wisconsin game because you deserved it. You would have taken it if Biran Calhoun didn't decide to go nuts. That would have been a big win.

Win the East....it gives us the chance to play for the title. Just keep winning games.

I love the fact we have a 2 game lead in the loss column on every team in the East. Let's keep it that way.

While I think I prefer the eastern division, I REALLY miss the alliteration.

Perhaps we should work on some assonance like "Feast on the East" or something like that.

Sorry...just don't like the sound of "Win the East"...LOL
