I had not seen this in any of the posts and wanted to put it out there.

My feeling is, if he gets hit on that left side, it will prolong the problem and i would rather see him sit and get two weeks. Yet its sounds as if it will be his and GB decesion on SAT.

BOWLING GREEN - If quarterback Omar Jacobs plays Saturday, he will have to shoulder the pain. If not, his Bowling Green State University teammates will have to shoulder the burden.


After separating his non-throwing shoulder last Saturday in the loss to Western Michigan, Jacobs is questionable for the Falcons' upcoming game against Akron, BG coach Gregg Brandon said yesterday. The decision on Jacobs isn't expected to come until Saturday and will largely depend on how much pain he can tolerate.

"It's going to be painful," Brandon said. "It's going to be a matter of how effectively he can throw the ball and how much he can deal with the pain.

"He's got to get that arm out in front to throw a ball. If he can do that, we'll make an evaluation from that standpoint, and see where he's at."

Ex-Falcon Suisham signs with Cowboys

missed a 29-yard field goal in their 13-10 loss to the

After setting an NCAA record for made extra points
in his career with the Falcons, Suisham signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers after the draft in April. He made a 47-yard field goal in a preseason game for the Steelers but was cut and joined the Cowboys’ practice squad at the end of training camp.Brandon is preparing his team to play without Jacobs and would start redshirt freshman Anthony Turner in his absence. He seemed less concerned about who would quarterback than with the mental focus of his team, which experienced a letdown after Jacobs was knocked out late in the first quarter of Saturday's 45-14 loss.

"When he went down, the whole team went down," Brandon said. "We didn't respond, we didn't answer the bell, and that's unfortunate. We've addressed that and we need to overcome that."

BG, leading the Mid-American Conference East by a half-game, has its next three games against divisional foes. They host the 3-4 Zips, followed by a trip to face 1-6 Kent State.

The Falcons end their season with the meat of their conference schedules, the games they most want Jacobs healthy for, on the road against 4-3 Miami and hosting 6-1 Toledo.

PLAYERS HONORED: The Falcons had conference players of the week yesterday in two sports. Women's soccer player Lindsay Carter won MAC honors and hockey player Jon Horrell won the Central Collegiate Hockey Association goalie award.

Carter, from Hilliard, Ohio, had two goals over the weekend as the Falcons increased their win streak to seven games. BG is in first place in the MAC and is guaranteed a share of the regular-season conference title. The Falcons will host a MAC tournament quarterfinal match next Tuesday.

Horrell had 41 saves to lead the Falcons to a 2-2 tie against Ohio State on Saturday.

Much as I love to see him play, I firmly believe that Omar should SIT this week!..... Yes, it's a gamble, but one, I believe, worth taking. If he tries to play and gets hit the "wrong" way....he could be out for the season....We've all been told ...and felt...that Anthony Turner is a capable backup...his performance last week did little to change my opinion... Yes, there were 2 INT's...but only one was truly his "fault" when he tried to force the ball...yes, he had "nervous" feet several times, but that was understandable as WMU was putting a lot of pressure on him, knowing we HAD to throw the ball to catch up...even then, he had 268 yds. or so, not too shabby...now, we have to get on the same page and finish the drives we started..... THE DEFENSE IS THE KEY THIS WEEK! If they can hold Akron down, as did Army last week (winless Army I might add), then we should be able to weather the storm...it gives O another week to heal...and frankly, if we can play without him at Kent, I'd do it too.

Well said "61" !!!! I'm one of the biggest Omar fans out there and it will hurt not to see him play on Saturday if that is the decision. But I think it will also be exciting to see AT start his first game and see what the future BG QB has to offer.

If we can get wins the next 2 weeks with AT, fine. Remember, we also have 10 days before the Miami game on 11/15 so that would give Omar a few more days to heal.

I concur...I also think that is why we have struggled on offense this. We are not running the same types of plays that we ran even last year. I think we can attribute this to the loss of PJ Pope. This has hurt us more than anyone can fathom.

Agreed, but I think this offense was designed to work with a mobile QB.

Look at UF this year. Leak is not a good runner, and they're having a mediocre offensive year. At Utah Alex Smith was a good runner and he played his way to top pick status.

I really think that this offense, as originally drawn up by Urban/Brandon, runs best when the QB is a legitimate rushing threat. No offense to Omar, because he's a great passer, but he is not the prototype QB for this offensive scheme, IMO.

I agree that Omar should sit this week. Although I would love to see him come out and play, I feel that even if he gets a good hit on that shoulder that we will be hurting for the rest of the season. I have a good feeling that we will win this week with or without Omar. AT can get the job done.

You play AT. If you run Omar out there and then find out that he really can't go or if he get's hurt again you're making a redhsirt freshman come into a game cold two weeks in a row. That's not fair to Turner or the team.

You're also telling Turner your faith in him is limited. Not the message you want to be sending when he's one good shot to Omar's shoulder from getting back in.

Let the injury heal a bit and then bring him back

But if we fall behind, I wouldn't doubt that Brandon would panic again and throw Omar out there even if he is hurting. Just like he did last week with Pope and Partridge.
