I guess this is the time to whip out my Brian McClure story.FormerFreddie wrote:Did anyone else notice the number of former BG players (seven, I think) who played in 1987, the strike-shortened season? Those games counted, contrary to popular belief. There were an awful lot of guys who played just three games that year.
I'm always talking up Bowling Green football; I can't helip it. So, when I lived in Rochester, someone finally asked me about Brian McClure.
My eyes grew wide. "Brian McClure was the best quarterback in school history. He was a stud!"
My coworker smirked.
I guess McClure started for Buffalo in a Monday night strike game -- and had such a bad game, his name has become a metaphor in western New York for scab football.
It is what it is, I guess. McClure was still a stud. It would have been neat to hear him tell a story or two at homecoming. I hope Grant got that chance.
